Bloody Clarkie has geeeed me up

Bloody Clarkie has geeeed me up to start creating my own parts

I said to the love of my life when she lets me have what I want, that items such as tube winch bars, hi lift jack brackets rock sliders displayed at the expo look easy to make

She says what do you need

    I said a welder

She said look on ebay and find one, besides it should keep you busy and you'll stop winging wanting crap for Rover (named by my 21/2 year old daughter)

    I said cool,

However I didn’t mention that I’d need an oxy or better yet a plasma cutter as well so I found this product on ebay and wanted to run it by you all so that you could return your though, keeping in mind that once all my projects are finished it wont be used all that often till another rover is bought or till I pull the finger out and get a start on the old Jag

It’s a 3 in 1 unit an Tig welder stick welder and a plasma cutter

How good does a Oxi cut say 10mm steal for example

A guy I know who builds trailers bought one wanting to try it as a plasma cutter to see how much he would use it before forking out the good money on a quality one and he has now had it for about 2 years and uses it nearly everyday for doing heaps of different jobs including using it as a TIG and it is great.

My old man has one of these cheapies from Nightingales in Melbourne and it is the best stick welder I have ever used but Im still to try it as a TIG.

If your happy with the price and you cant justify thousands of $ for a welder I would go for it.

Oxy isnt the best thing to cut tube with, 9" angle grinder or plasma is better and clean it up with a 4".

If your asking how it would cut 10mm steel then you will take a while to learn how to do it properly but anyone can use a plasma, even my 10yo son can use it and it should be able to do 10mm. But an oxy will cut 10mm plate but to do it neatly takes practice and learning how to set it up in the first place.

I would be very wary of unknown name brands, they maybe cheap, but you need to have service and repair back-up and spare parts, usually with 3 in 1 machines if one part breaks down, nothing works, also Plasma cutters usually require a decent air compressor with a good water trap, do you really need a plasma cutter, I had a CIG plasma cutter for years and I think I used it for less than an hour in that time, ended up selling as almost new condition. I would stick to local brand names that have a warranty that's worth the paper it's written on, Regards Frank.
