Thread: The fundamental difference

I almost was going to post a similiar type thread in respect to all of this having read recent and previous commentary and find that some of our ilk can be a little precious and defensive when it comes to our choice of vehicle. One could argue that with myself being new to ownership in with the green oval, that I havent the years or experience with earlier model LR's. However I have had a love of them for many years and couldnt wait to get my hands on my first one. At the end of the day, no matter what the make, they are all 4WD's, that is what we have in common, along with using our beasts for their intended purpose, camping, travelling, climbing tricky paths.

I have come across poo pooing from other brand owners and from within the same camp for the D3 for either its bells and whistles, electrickery, price tag etc etc, its not till someone sees it in action that they change their mind...........not that I give a rats either way. I find that on most other forums that LR's dont get the beat up that some protest too, maybe a small minority but the whole seem to appreciate LR's as with any other make of vehicle, and that is great. But as soon as there is a slight for some reason we get upset and feel we have to go to great lengths to "prove" ourselves....Why? There is no need to, its like a line has been cast and we catch it.

I think just like with LR's you have your diehards and your "fair weather" owners, no doubt the same with Toyota, Patrol, Mitsubishi etc etc. Its not about being better, its about enjoying that common demoninator a love of a 4WD no matter what the reason or make,

It's a pity OL and A4WDM forum members don't understand that. Mention LR in any way and all I ever seem to see from them are derogatory comments.

Even mention of the Expo got such commentary.

I haven't posted on A4WDM since April (I was banned for two weeks for making an off-topic post! I haven't bothered since.)

I agree also.... Somtimes people loose sight of the whole forum/website...

Badge of honour - Land Rover.

Genuine heritage, and used by allied forces to keep us safe.

Other lesser makes have no claim, nor do their protagonists.

In the seemingly endless zones of trouble across the planet,
and we see so often on tv, the 'good guys' drive Land Rover.
We also see what the 'bad guys' use, NOT Land Rover.

Lucky it doesn't happen here. Lots of the posts on threads here are off topic, but it makes it much more interesting. Can't see why you should be banned for that.

To get the thread back on topic...

For me it is the people that make LR ownership more interesting. I drive a Pajero when I need to cart the family along - it's auto, newer, a/c was available locally, what can I say? But no Pajero driver waves to me, no-one stops me in the street to talk to me about my Pajero.

You could argue that's the brand, and the associations (a la Quiggers) but I think it's the people. Perhaps we all inherited a bit of eccentricity and like meeting others the same.

A Brand is something different to each individual.

I for one believe that the Land Rover is only partly represented in the current line-up while some Range Rover is repsented in each current model Land Rover. Or to put it another way - only the Defender is descended from the Land Rovers of yore, while all of the rest, and the Defender too, are descended from the Range Rover Classic.

So for me, I'd like to see more Land Rover - utilitarian, functional, DIY - in the lineup.

But I know I'm outvoted.

Not here though, but that's why I love ys'all
