ABC Newsflash:
Steve Bracks has resigned as Victorian Premier.
Mr Bracks confirmed the news in a press conference currently under way in Melbourne.
The press conference followed a state Cabinet meeting this morning.
Mr Bracks has been under pressure on a number of fronts recently.
He has steadfastly refused to sign up to the federal Government's $10 billion Murray-Darling Basin plan, setting him apart from his counterparts in Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.
Earlier this month his son Nick was arrested and charged with drink driving after crashing the family car into a tree in the early hours of the morning.
Mr Bracks, 53, has been the member for Williamstown since 1994 when he was elected in a by-election.
He became Labor leader in March 1999, leading the party to victory in October that year.
Before he entered politics, Mr Bracks was a high school teacher and held a number of education and employment-related jobs.
He's GONE.
