Laidley shire to amalgamate with the gatton shire, some of us not very happy

We went through this last year (or was it the year before). Major difference I noticed was a 60% increase in rates - and the council town is now 120km away not 110. No services at all before the merger and none after, so not a lot of difference. (my local village 6km away is in a different shire)

Yeah we're one of the most over-governed countries in the world
I'm sorry, I'm not a big fan of states where governence is concerned, as far as I can see all they do is cause confusion.
I reckon we should have just local and federal, if that.
Having worked in Local Government for the last 28 years the only good thing I can see in amalgamations is getting rid of one or more set of Councillors and putting in an administrator. That takes all the petty politics and nimbyism out of the equation as well as putting a lot of pi$$ poor retired school teachers and dodgy property developers out of a job.
You have the local government act and the adminstrator uses this to make a decision not a pack of Freinds of the ..... calling the shots.
I am all for consultation but from my experience it only leads to squeeky wheels getting all the oil. I prefer the Cock that crowed gets the axe!

thats a pipe dream i would thing... love to be proved wrong tho...
imagine how much more of the remote peoples tax money would be spent in the big vote places...
3 layers of government keeps the mongrels governanced and just that bit more honest imho
that doesnt mean what we have now is good, it could be way better but what has experience shown is in it for the little people when this sort of thing happens?
has it ever been researched by someone other than someone wanting to implement it?
sure there of plenty of council workers squealing about it, but i would love to hear of more reports from the general public in areas where this has happened... from the little places and from the central locations..
cant wait to see the **** fight that is going to occur in my little part of the world..
pine rivers, caboolture and redcliffe...
any of them labour dominated councils, i know caboolture isnt and i know the old family friend who runs pine rivers but is retiring isnt (my dad worked with her husband way before she was public) , whats redcliffe like?
which one of the three is going to host the big house?
should be careful what i say i suppose..
i look after so many ex mayors of shires north of brisbane computers i usually dont get dragged politics..
but it is usually fun when a couple are in the shop at the same time...
bless em...

G'day Incisor
Just been talking to the Sprog, and was informed that the new name for the impending North Moreton Council is C-R-A-P council
Didn't take long did it
cheers
Oh don't worry UncleHo, in the office we've been talking about that name for a looong time.
Caboolture, Redcliffe and Pine - CRaP
We never really expected it to come to fruition though
As an IT worker I don't see my work place staying at Redcliffe, it'll go where-ever the main administration building goes.
Sure there will still be some services at Redcliffe and probably a customer centre but for jobs that can be centralized, they will.
I drive an hour to get to work already, dunno if I fancy adjusting that route by much to make it to Pine or Caboolture. Time will tell.
Well, blow me down... The feds are starting to take back health![]()
