    cape york camp bookings??

    HI all,

Just wondering if anyone can give me some info on whether it is completely necessary to book camp sites up the cape in august/september. We are heading up there shortly but are unsure of our tracks and timeframes. We've heard you need to book places, but it just seems to hard to predict, particularly wen we are leaving from the Gold Coast.

We were really hoping we could just rock up and not be tied into a schedule.

    Any ideas would be great??

    cheers
    Jimmy

We were up there in 2006 and basically just rocked up to all the campsites.

Check out the trip report in the .. uh .. trip report section of the site

might pay to check with the vanpark at Weipa and possibly whoevers running things at the Tip now, as if you did roll up and there was some event on in either of these areas there is no other designated camping areas.
    The Ugly Duckling-
03 Defender Xtreme, now reduced by 30%.

We were there in July-August 2005 and didn't book any camp sites. Once you on Telegraph track you can camp near creeks. We found it much better for as than using designated camping areas such as at Fruit Falls.

    Just FYI our camp spots:
    - Musgrave - $7 p/person
    - Archer River
    - Weipa - our friends house
    - Sam Creek
    - Punsand Bay - $25

    Cheers,
    Ruslan

We've just come back from cape york a week ago. Because of the amount of travellers up there at the moment, the main tourist centres (Seisa, Weipa and Cooktown) were fairly busy but we still managed to get in somewhere. It would probably be worthwhile to phone 1 day ahead if you are within phone range. We've had great weather and the roads are good this season (at least when we were there). Enjoy the trip, its a great place.
