I know what you mean, I've heard a lot about delaminating, but personally I think that the issue with Coopers(at least the ones I have), is poor vulcanisation of the rubber in the mould.
That is, the rubber at the time of curing in the mould(press/temp governed) has been subjected to too much temp resulting in the rubber turning ever so slightly Brittle by its nature, and they simply are slowly perishing at the joints.
It's not the carcas of the tyre that has been weakened, it's all the rubber joints on the seams.
There are no cracks where the thread section is laminated to the carcas, if they were there, than they would be off in a minute.....
I have done many highway k's on these, and never had to rebalance, nor is there any pulling at speed, and I think at high speed highway wheel rotation, any of these symptoms would be indicative of the structure of the tyre being somewhat compromised.

I inspect the tyres regularly, so I'm kind of respectfull of how I drive, and what I'm driving on......

Mate, in a Defender at "pace", the tyres are the last thing on my mind..........lol....lol....

I've got cooper AT ' s on my D2 TD5 with about 30,000km and they seem okay. Mixed terrain, rough and rougher. Freeway and a little bit of wet ( bloody hard to find wet lately ) . They hang on well, ride well and seem to be wearing well. Don't think they will make the gauranteed 80,000km but they are a long way better for the price than the michies.

I've got ST's on Disco TD5 for approx 30,000 ks now, no prob with side wall cracks or tread chipping, but I don't have a lot of confidence in them on a wet road. They do tend to slip a bit in the wet, but this could be as we havn't had a wet road in Perth for a long time, so they are very slippery at moment.

I put Cooper ATRs on my alloy road rims a year ago and have done about 10,00km on them. So far they have been very good - haven't noticed the problems you mentioned but i'll have a closer look tomorow. The're stacked in the garage at this time.

I think you can judge Cooper's by their Mileage (kilometre) Guarantee, IT DOESN'T APPLY IF YOU DRIVE OFFROAD, that's a great guarantee, Regards Frank.

I have the same minor cracking on my ST's.
They are now about 5 years old and the cracking has not really changed in all that time, so I wouldn't worry about it.

That's not unreasonable. Off-road (and I don't mean dirt roads) may be very hard on any tread.

I've got a set of STTs on a 2nd set of alloys that I put on for trips. So far they have been great except for wearing quickly - the tread has worn by about 3 or 4mm .
No cracks or other damage. They aren't that noisy either and give a mucher softer ride than my XPC road tyres.

I have Coopers AT's on the Flandie. Didn't do too many k's on them yet (20,00??) but what I did: Fraser Is, dirt roads, lots of highway.. they seemed to handle well. No issues with chipping or cracking. Not the quietest of tyres...

I had 245/70/17 ST's on my D3 and they chipped, cracked and the lugs tore off. Exclusive Tyres replaced them under prorata and I swapped to STT's and have not had a problem since.

The ST's in 17" don't come in the antichip compound so there was no choice however I prefer the STT pattern anyway.

It was funny when I spoke to the Cooper sales rep and he said that I'd been using these tyres off road. How could I lie and say, "no sir never these tyres have never seen any dirt."
