    Thanks all.

D2 is going because I want a diesel, I am sick of all the money I spend on petrol on our big holiday trips and I also want to do Madigans Line next year.

Interesting the number of people who don't like the Playdoh. The good thing going for it is the amount of dealers you have around the country and the way they hold their price.
I would not buy the old diesel on the Prado which was inderect injections but only the new D4D motor.

I do like the 5 year warranty on the Paj and I have not heard many bad things about them.........but..........I just wonder how well they are built. (which seems a stupid comment coming from a LR owner )

    It doesn't have leather?

Don't worry, I was tempted.... then I thought of how much work I could do on the P38A for that money. (Anf the P38A has leather).

Personally, whilst I love the look of good leather, I'm not fussed whether I have it or cloth. I have lambs wool seat covers on my front leather seats.

I know the DEFENDER option has already been raised, and shot down, but allow me to mention it again.

    1. You won't have the same depreciation issues with the Defender that you had with the D2.

    2. It is an excellent tourer, will carry all you need, easy to live with off road, and easy to custom set up.

    3. You could afford to buy NEW and get a 2007 model.

    4. For $70K you can get a NEW DEFENDER and Bling it till it's got more luxury than the Range Rover.

    Think about it.

But most of that happened the moment the D3 came out. The question is which one of your three shortlisted vehicles is likely to have the most model longevity? When are we due for an all-new Rangie? Surely not in the near future since all Land Rover's focus has been on the D3-Rangie Sport platform and Defender update. Did Ford invest any development in the full-size Range Rover? If not, then I would expect the current shape to have at least three years left in it.

So the current Range Rover hit the showroom in 2002 - now it's 5 years old but only a handfull used ones for sale. The current Pajero hit the showroom last year, and there are already dozens of used ones for sale. The current Prado arrived in 2003 and there are a billion used for sale.

So the Rangie is the oldest model, but I would suspect the new Prado will arrive before we see an all-new Rangie. But you are not really comparing apples with apples because new or used, the Range Rover is a faaaaar more expensive vehicle, and for any used current model they command higher prices as well.

But if you want my honest opinion, I go with the "buy a Defender" suggestion.

LOL. Sorry but the Defender option is definately out!

I do like the new Defender and I think the Defender would be a nice tourer

    BUT

Most of my driving is in city peak hour traffic and I definately want an auto. Why they don't bring out an auto Defender I will never know but until they do I will not be getting one.

I'm looking at selling my D2a Td5 Auto if you want a very low mileage one Walker. I'm thinking D3 SE TDV6 as a replacement or a new Defender (wife doesn't know about that thought). Can't justify a RRS.

Now my only issue is will LR still warranty it if I am unable to take it to a dealer and will do all the diagnostic work through Rovacom. Seriously, I wouldn't own a LC, Prado or Patrol as a matter of principle plus they have just as manyissues as Land Rovers nowdays. But I have to admit that LR servicing is non-existant and that is a right pain where as a Toyota is easier to find a dealer (and more expensive to run).

As much as I hate to say it on here, the Pajero is an absolutely excellent vehicle. We seriously beatup Pajeros every year, and I mean like we really work them hard - seats down and loaded up to the drivers seats, front to back full of filled water jerries and fanged through the bush. They do everything with excellence and handle perfectly irrespective of the load they have. They are supremely comfortable and the performance is excellent. The diesel is the pick of the lot also, especially due to the way it is matched to the auto. They're also interesting on the interior, unlike the Toyotas. Should my Disco every depart from me, then the Pajero would without a doubt be on my very short list. There is a lot of talk about the travel in the IFS/IRS etc, but to be honest, despite having poor ramp figures, the suspension is still capable enough to match the clearance which the body provides - its not an issue. The real issue with the suspension is that it does pick up sticks, but thats about it. I also think the monocoque chassis has now proven itself and it has been around for quite a while.

In terms of quality, the early versions had problems, like bits would fall off, computers would black out etc, though over the last few years they have been absolutely faultless. They tyres size is also nice an broad so it will probably offer good traction for Madigans.
    Cheers
    Slunnie
