Was it Away that had the huge dramas with his Pajero so he bought a D3 to replace it?

A friend of mine has a Pajero. Its the turbo diesel about 3 years old. The only off road it sees is a few Fraser trips every year towing his trailer all the way to Orchid Beach via Inskip. Otherwise it is a school bus. I think the only trouble he has had with it is the fuel gauge said it had diesel when it didn't. It got trucked to a dealership before they realised the problem. He also had trouble towing his trailer in the soft sand as the drawbar hung low and dragged in the sand. I think all he did was buy a different tow hitch tongue from ARB. It is his third Paj so he must like them.
That is a superceded model now though.

Now if you after the best ride, the most comfort and a driving sensation that only a car can equal, then it’s the RR.

I tried quite a few 4x4s before I was tricked into test driving the RR and there is just nothing like driving one and this was the over riding factor for me when it cam to the difference in price. The RR IS worth the extra.

BUT based on a dollar for dollar value basis, save up your pennies and by a D3. It’s not quite the same as driving an RR but it’s still heaps better than the other two.

Again, it all come down to what you really what the 4x4 for.

Hi drivesafe, Not a shot at you, but I don't understand how a Pajero is more reliable than a RR but would not last as long as a RR. Doesn't make sence to me but then again I am a bit slow.

I would have thought if the Paj is more reliable it will out last the Rangie.

yeh but after you complete the dakkar race it would probably be buggered but at least you won the race

Well, I finally got out for a test drive this afternoon. I drove the Prado and the Pajero. I still plan to drive the TD6 but I am very worried I will like it the best.

I was a bit disapointed with the Pajero. The price is good, the interior is good the warranty is very good (5 year bumber to bumber and 10years on the motor and drivetrain). But it was still very noisy and a lot less refined. The Prado on the other hand was great. The acceleration on the new D4d motor was awsome and it was just so much quieter with no squeeks or rattles at all. But it is about $7k more expensive for an equivilent model.

Oh well, just have to go drive the TD6.

It's a hard life, but someone's got to do it.

Hi ak, the Pajero will probably not give much trouble for a few good years of use but once it does, you can be sure just about everything will fail in a short period of time.

I don’t mean these vehicles are no good, quite the reverse, they are good value for money but there not a vehicle one plans on keeping for a long period of time.

The RR on the other hand has proven to be as unreliable as any LR can be, but if you can put up with fixing the odd problem, it will probably last forever.

My wife’s D3 is proving to be one of the most reliable vehicles we have had while my 03 RR is with out any stretch of the imagination, the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned ( and I’ve had some bombs ) but I bet 10 years from now it will still be going strong.

I still have every intention of buying a new TDV8 RR in the not too distant future but as my 03 is not likely to fetch much as a trade in, ( it’s done 170,000 kms ) I’ll keep it for most of my off roading and as a work horse.

oK, so your 03 RR is very unreliable! I have heard that from quite a few owners in the past 3 weeks. As much as I love the idea of owning one I think that it might not be a good idea.

For all of $1500 you can have a FULL diagnostic system to carry in the vehicle anyhow...

In a modern vehicle thats right up there with spanners and spare belts...

Just add that into the purchase and you'll be fine.
