1. The springs are Lovells 4", the front shocks are standard Bilstein Patrol rears, the rear shocks at Bilstein 6100 10" revalved and mounts changed to rubber rings (I'd just use revalved Patrol rears if I did it again).

2. Spaced the front X-member down for propshaft clearance, extended brake lines, extended abs lines, extended rear ACE swaybar links to the axle (used fronts), extended bumpstops, slightly clearanced watts linkage.

3. No castor correction - seems to have more in the D2 than the classics.

3. Polyairs for a 2" lift come with an additional spacer. Polyairs for a 4" lift come with 2 spacers.

4. RTI 575@30 degrees (RTI 841@20 degrees) when the car is empty. The pic is on the BBM 30 degree ramp which is steeper than the normal 20 degree ramps.

5. Springs are about $600, Shocks are about $1000 with revalve. ABS extensions are about $150. Brake line extensions vary, you make the bumpstop + Xmember spacers and clearance the watts linkage, ebay for the front swaybar links to put in the rear - about $30.

With this suspension you can also bolt on 33's (285/75-16 or 255/85-16) and with a trim on the guards you can run 35's.

Absolutely agree, and also a very good understanding of the interrelationship between the springs/shock and its effects on the 4WD, base starting points, a very good mechanical understanding of the suspension to work out your limitations and subsequent fixs, and again to also make sure all of the parts work together properly from a mechanical perspective and will continue to do so reliably.

Thats a nice set up slunnie, seems to work very well.

one more qeustion have you got ACE on yours Slunnie

what through a spanner on my plans and added total confusion was when Ultimate suspension advised that due to having ACE on my D2 I wasnt able to go higher the 1 inch lift 2 pushing it

what did you use to drop your x member did you need longer bolts and spacers for example

Im trying to weigh up whether to do it my self or just pay some one due to lack of time if so who do we recomend to make this happen here in NSW

Yes mate, ACE is on there and working perfectly. Its a very common comment to hear from those in the know that you cant lift ACE over 2", something that I and a lot of people have challenged and disproven.

For the front Xmember, I've just used RHS for a spacer and longer bolts.

Got sold the OME stuff for the Wrangler but very unimpressed. Springs sag, don't cater for the LHD/RHD swap so driver's side always looked low and the shocks were no better than the Monroe's on the Pajero (but dearer!).
I won't be buying OME again. Great for an out of the box 2" lift "look".

Coils are under licence by King Springs

Shocks are made on a private line at Monroe at St Marys in Adelaide.

This is not to say they are made the same as monroe shocks, but they do utilise the manufacturing facilities and equipment to manufacture them.

the springs info is interesting Mike. How long have they had the contract ? Had some pretty poor experiences years ago with custom wound Kings stuff, don't know if I'd go that way again. ;)


I'm pretty sure that years (and years) ago National Springs made OME's stuff (National Springs per se no longer exist, are they perhaps now Monroe Springs ??????) who made the best coils and leaf springs in Oz, just didn't make them for the afermarket. At one stage they supplied Merc in Germany for the little C class, as well as most all the local OEM market. They also did the original springs for JRA for the Perenties and during testing outlasted everyone elses submissions by a long shot, while using the same BHP sourced steel. Apparently, at the time Lovells were dumbstruck at how National outperformed them when using the same material.
