That's a great idea. Nice and strong.

mmm, think it's morning tea time. Looks like I'll have to drive the 8km up the road and get a shot.
Used to get great coffee at one of local cafe's (the owner was a pedant) but it changed hands recently, now it's a real lottery what you get on any given day.....:(
BTW Ron, thanks for the link to that coffee board, now a member :D
and one of my clients who is the qld rep for a speciality chocolate manufacturer walks in straight after reading this and leaves some samples of their wine flavoured blocks for my wife and some no added sugar ones for me (coffee and hazelnut and plain DARK) ..
not good for the diet....
An aulro blend? Fantastic idea.
Could be a bit of a fund raiser like the RAVE CD's and similar?
Imagine that, in the garage, working on the landy, sipping your aulro coffee, or taking a leg stetch break on a track somewhere, and breaking out the aulro coffee.
What do you think Inc? I'd be up for ordering some AULRO beans.
cheers
Dave - now distracted by the coffeesnobs site too
gees, and i thought my plunging habit was good,,
see you at COOMA Ron!!!
I started my roasting by trying the popcorn popper, OK but small amount each roast and the plastic cover on top is starting to distort. I'm in the process of making a s/steel drum but in the meantime on the advice of Neil at Ministrygrounds I have converted a breadmaker and use a paint stripper heat gun. You get an old breadmaker and remove all the electronics so that the motor drives the paddle in the bin and direct the heat gun at the beans. Works reasonably well and I do about 2 cups at a time. :)
you guys are on the right track roasting your own, im in the coffee game and train baristas for a quid, you wouldnt believe how easy it is to make consistantly great coffee its just like most things in life you have to have a passion for what you do and most people just cant be arsed, if you go into a coffee shop thats quiet and they have a 2kg hopper and a 5oogram doser thats full your never going to get a decent coffee.a clean machine and fresh grind is the key, we regurlaly do 120 cups an hour but only use a half kilo hopper and grind enough for a few shots as the grind allways changes due to hummidity etc, water temp/qaulity. sorry to go on but i am a bit passionate about great coffee
Neil,
nice job if you can get it huh?
I use a racilio rocky grinder without a doser for home use - it's strictly grind on demand...
my coffee comes direct from the pro roaster every tuesday - by saturday the flavour is distinctly different from earlier in the week and by monday it's getting to be a bit below expectations... but then come tuesday afternoon :D and :eek::eek: all night thanks to excess caffeine
I'd dearly love a home roaster (hottop or similar) - the problem is justification to the minister of war....
That's why I need to do a course, Neil.
I don't know enough about adjusting for the bean and humidity. My Ibertial Challenge is doserless. It uses a worm drive for grind adjustment so it's not quick to change the grind by large amounts - hence the use of a DeLonghi KG100 for plunger coffee
I've been considering moving to blends from my local roaster to get a consistent roast rather than my hit or miss home roast. Once I've got the espresso right, then moving back to home roasting.
