Pimping 4wd's

One of the best smurfs I have seen was on a Hi-lux 2wd chassis, and lowered to the max.

As a teenager I had a 1/32 scale model of a 2 door Rangie that I lowered and put drag slicks on the rear (one of my favourites) and it looked good.

Are you all saying that you are so one-eyed that you can not appreciate the hard work that someone else has done with their motor vehicle?:eek:

I love my Landie and all other modified cars on the road. Yes I might hang crap on them but the owners are all like us "PETROL HEADS" :twisted:

Yes I also laugh at bling on a 4wd, but sometimes it does look good:D

I dont know that I can see the point of buying a 4Wd, that is designed to be higher than other vehicles and then lower it either by suspension or wheel/tyre combinations. However as others have said each to their own, and I wouldn't be getting upset about it.

What these vehicle do mean though is its extremely unlikely that they will be coming into the bush and playing where I go, THAT is good, less crowds. :)

i don't like it either - i think it just says 'look at me, i'm a belter with too much money (credit)'

20's on any passenger car gives you a crap ride quality, over exposure to damage on crap (sydney) roads (and gutters - wife) and as mentioned before, they don't comply with the regs which can make insurance claims a bogfight.

BUT, thank christ it's a free country and it's their choice..

Actually its not that FREE...

Almost all of those vehicles are illegal and not roadworthy...

Bump stop clearances and the law prohibit them doing it legally...

Load ratings prevent it too...

And the safety factors from both the above would be very questionable...

Yeah, i meant free to choose. The flip side of some of those types of rims is a crappy casting. Unfortunately that broad statement of 'buyer beware' makes it too easy for people to buy and fit dodgey crap to their vehicles. It's only until the poo hits the fan that regulators are forced to step in. Education is also a missing element...

I find it funny people get worked up about the legality of 20" rims, yet think nothing of 35" or 40" tyres sticking out the side of a 4WD raised to the point of being unstable on road.

I was thinking the other day about shaving the door handles and making concealed hinges on a Defender, why? Because no one has done it before AFAIK.

Go and do what you want to a plastic model, it isnt sharing the road with me.

There is no work in buying a set of wheels and getting someone to bolt them on and maybe get someone else to put an illegal tint on the windows so you cant see out just so people cant see in and your back yarder mate cutting the springs so it pretty much rides on the bump stops.

They cant be called petrol heads, all they are thinking about is what is in their pants and the fact that they think that is what gets the opposite sex to notice them.

If they were petrol heads A. they wouldnt be driving a Plado or 80/100 series they would be driving something like a 5ltr or Gen 3 commode or similar falcon or jap equivilent.

Petrol head term comes from modifying engines and I can assure you that other than probably a supa cheap pod air cleaner and an autobarn blow off valve for the sound only there would be no other mods to the drive train.

Looks arnt everything.......I think as long as it's legal then go for it but most of them are not legal for the points that have been posted earlier and for that reason I think they are silly for doing it (that shouldnt upset too many people).

All of that has been covered in other threads but Im with you there, vehicals should be kept legal and safe, thats my point and if it is one way or the other, they are the same sort of people as they are not respecting other road users for personal taste.

If you want to spend mega bucks on conceiling hinges on a Defa then go for it, It would be legal and probably look great.

you will find that alot of cars on the road ain't legal;)
take mine for instance:omy windscreen is cracked

surely even you over your many years of driving expertise has done some mod thats not road legal:angel:
but then again you might not have
