They don't worry me unless they sneak up you unawares. I remeber running into a massify spider in the rainforest up in FNQ once that scared the crap out of me.
I photographed this fella on Sunday and was only 15cm from him.

A Long time ago we lived in Port Morsby in Papua New Guinnea and had a Bird eating spider in the lounge room. Whilst they apparently do catch small birds they are just freaks of nature that get to be as big as a dinner plate. Being only two years of age at the time my memory is a bit fuzzy. Apparently Mum locked me and my sister in a bedroom and got the native house boy who came with a shovel and killed it.................................... and then took it home for Dinner!!!!! WTF! nguhhh
I don't know what it is with spiders. I have had a great laugh reading through this, and the fact that people will risk severe injury or possible death to get away from them is amazing. Personally I would pick up a snake to whack a spider. What is it with these buggers?
I think I need a change of undies thinking about these stories! :eek:
Well, I reckon spiders are so interesting I even went on an "Insects and Spiders of WA" night course at TAFE many years ago.
In one of the species of spider the male ties the female's legs to the web before mating, to give himself a few extra seconds to get away without being eaten. Fascinating. Shame I can't remember which species it was.
Tip: When removing a huntsman from the house, put an upturned glass over the top of it, and slide a piece of card underneath to hold it in. Then carry outside and release. Works better than the broom because it can't run anywhere.
I have a lovely huntsman that lives around the passenger side alpine window...

When I was a kid I saw my mother kill a large spider with a broom. Unfortunately the spider was on a glass pane of an internal door, and the laundry basket was on the other side :D .
We all thought it was pretty funny until we realized they were our clothes full of glass:(
Spiders are great for keeping the insect population down, and Gecko's are great at keeping the spider population down, so I just need something to keep the Gecko population down !!!
I've got hundreds of the little mozie munchers ;)
