At the risk of starting a debate up, why do you want the darkest legal tint,
to reduce the uv's my understanding is there is almost clear stuff that will do the same job.
I can't understand those that want to be in cars you can't see inside of, nothing worst at a traffic stop not being able to see in a car, makes for a justified pistol pointing excercise.

While I agree entirely with your sentiments (and the dark tinting makes you look silly - like a wannabe gangster), I have to point out that although there is little needed to stop UV - ordinary glass stops most of it - all the light that gets in, UV, visible, IR, when it lands on the upholstery or other interior bits is converted to heat. This means that the more you can reduce the light getting in, the less the interior heats up. This becomes important when you live in a hot, sunny climate (most of Australia), and unfortunately most cars sold here are either designed by people who live in cold climates where the more sun inside the better, or, in the case of the few that are not designed by people who live in a cold climate, are slavish copies of their styling. The Defender is, in fact, with its near vertical glass, just about the best car available for this climate.Quote:

PS My 110 has factory tinting, which is barely visible, and my 2a is untinted.

I got my info from a tinting place when i got the pajero done years ago, mainly to keep the heat off the little fella in the baby seat. The bloke showed me a tint, well in actual fact it was almost clear and told me it was the best UV reducer on the market. i ended up with one a tad darker than it. It wasn;t noteable at all, but made a huge difference.

Yes, my point is that UV is not the only concern, or even, in many cases, the major one. But even mild tinting makes a big difference to both UV and heat build up. In addition to my tinting I try to use a hook on blind next to my youngest grand daughter (2) when in the 110 - the little so-and-so won't leave it alone though!Quote:

cost me 350 for darkest legal with Tinti professor in melb. Am very happy with it as it reduces UV and heat in the car..and also give a little bit more security to it....being a muso with valuables it does help.

Mainly got for heat reduction. The cargo area is darker for the fridge.

$350 for my 110 in Mildura Tint-a-car arranged by the garage I bought it off. Asked for dark as is legal allowed. Got it back to SA and the rego office, and it was defected on the tint being too dark. :eek: In SA the allowable tint is less than VIC.
Guy defecting me was in the army and used to drive Landy's. Told me it was usual practice to scratch the tint to ensure it would be replaced, although he didn't do it to me. He also said that if I didn't change it, the insurance may not pay out in an accident, especially if it was at night, and especially as it had been defected. I phoned the garage, and they arranged to get an SA tint-a-car to replace at no cost.
Darkest legal tint must be a nightmare to see out of in the night time????????? Or am I wrong:confused:
Darkest legal tint isn't all that dark in my opinion. We have it in the D3, and night vision is fine.Quote:
