    Returned from Cape York.

Just got back home from Cape York last night. What an amazing journey. It is a bit of a shame that I had to drive four and a half thousand K's to get where the old telegraph starts. The Defender handled it all with ease, except the corrigations. Have a short in the dash wiring that blows the radio, and interior lights. Glad I had the i-pod for the trip home. Also blew the main light fuse under the seat, (during the day) so had no headlights, or tail lights. Just noticed that the green light on the dash was not on. Got it replaced in Cairns, thanks Renee, at Trinity Motors. Any ideas of why it blew? Pulled apart the light switch, and it was fine. Was a corrigated road, and had the lights on for most of the day. There were a few deep river crossings ( that I had the lights on during). Mental note to self. Turn off lights before entering deep water.
Will write up a trip report soon.

    Cheers,
    Ken

As Weeds said - waiting for the trip report and photo's.
What an awesome journey, would love to do it myself as well. At least a tad closer to the Cape than you (from the Gold Coast)

I to did the cape this year that was in june/july.

Its a top trip even if it is hard to find a tuff track to test you.

Would be nice if the OTL was a 1000ks longer

With corrugations, always expect the unexpected... You'll probably **** that something obscure has come loose and is shorting something out. However, it'll probably only ever happen after 4hrs of driving on corrugations!!!!

    Post Bloody Fender Fuses

    Ken

Have a close look at the fuse panel and in particular the 20 amp bugger that powers the interior light, the headlight flasher, the CD player and in my case the digital clock.

Before the drive from Hobart to Townsville I put in a new CD player, a digital clock etc. Drove 20k outta Melbourne and WTF no CD player, interior light or digital clock.

With the help of a mate I've isolated the problem to the fuse panel. They are crap and prone to allowing the fuses to come loose if they get even remotely warm form a bit of current draw. I've not fixed it yet but will do so in the next couple of weeks now I can get my Fender in the garage.

    Cheers

I went to Melbourne Land Rover today. The mechanic told me where to look for a wire that has worn thuough. Had him pull out the radio with their "special" tool. can't see anything behind the radio. He said to look behind the fuse panel, and lift the wingtop ports, and check for wiring loose or frayed. Also need to look at the wires behind the headlights. Replaced the fuse that controls the radio, interior light, and trip computer. Lasted about 15 minutes of driving on tracks during the trip. I think the wire might be behind the fuse panel, where it goes through the firewall.
Will get into it this weekend. If I can't find it, will thake it to the Stealers, as it is still under warranty.

    Trip report to come.
