I don't know what the answer is, but I'm also keen to find out if there's a place that will refinish a leather steering wheel. Mine is simply worn from lots of use.![]()
The leather steering wheel on my new (to me) renault clio needs recovering as the previous owner must have driven around with some toxic substance on her hands which has made the tanning all sticky.
Does anyone know of a shop that can recover the wheel?

if you aren't too bothered about the finish what about one of those leather covers you tie on around the wheel, the ones you might see on old sports cars.
Cost you about $10
or you could just try cleaning it with a product called....saddle soap.....
comes in a tin similar to dubbin.......but is for cleaning leather......
the only place i know that may repair the wheel would be a saddlers......if you can find one........
a new wheel would probably be cheaper though.......
If you find somewhere to get it done can you let us know. I would love to get mine done also.
Any half decent motor trimmer should be able to do it.
I had my Momo wheel recovered locally by a trimmer.
better stuff is EFFAX leder combi, available from any good sadlery.
It's the only stuff the OH will use to clean all her expensive German leather saddles and bridles as it cleans without making anything greasy.

I'd second the saddlers too.
I had a go using saddle soap on the wheel (I use it on all of my mg's leather) and it pretty much stripped the sticky tanning off however now I'm left with patches of bare leather. Will go past the local trimmer and ask if they can do anything.
A new wheel from Renault is $650 - which in a way is cheap when you consider a new (crappy vinyl) wheel for a defender is over $700 from Landrover!!
Where in Melbourne is a saddler that can do this?
I want to know the name of an actual saddler who does do steering wheels.
