Picking up the Disco next week

Well after what seemed like weeks of looking I'm going to be the new owner of a late 97 tdi disco next week. Hopefully picking it up on tuesday/wednesday. I can't wait.

Problem is I've already started pricing stuff up for it.

Might try and get some stuff over form the uk. Will see how it works out with the shipping.

Thanks. Hope it's a goodun' The pre-inspection report was pretty good. Just the normal wear and tear really. So fingers crossed.

Anyone had much luck importing bits over form the UK BTW? Some bits seem a fair bit cheaper that hear. But I'm guessing the postage is going to be the killer.

I've used www.paddockspares.com before for small lightweight stuff. The postage is expensive but the parts are very cheap.

    Congrats on the Disco.

Yeah, I was looking at them last night and wondered. Might also speak to JSF Landrovers too. Used to use them before when I lived in England and had my 110. Always seemed pretty good.

Although they're probably not as cheap as Paddock spares.

    Picked it up today.

I'm pretty happy with it. So fingers crossed.

    First impressions:

It's the first land rover I've ever had with power steering, so that's nice. It's a lot quieter than my previous ones (ex-military 110 diesel and IIa diesel) so no surprise there either. Can actually have a conversations in the car without shouting. haha Dives really well. Only gripes so far is the heater fan is making a squeaking noise so I'll have to have a look at that. Any ideas anyone? And the clock back light has blown, but not too bothered about that. Oh and the indicators don't cancel themselves for some reason, but again that's not really a biggie either. So on the whole all's good in the world.

I pulled the heater fan out of mine a couple of weeks ago to fix the squeak. It's easy enough to get to and remove.
Take out the black cardboard trim above the passengers feet and you'll see the back of the fan hanging down. Three screws and one plug and it's out.
Once the fan is out, carefully remove the blower from the shaft. The motor is in a plastic housing which has to be removed before you can pull the motor apart and lube the bearings. There are two screws holding it into the housing. A few cracks on a couple of blocks of wood should shake it out (be careful of the pins for the plug - they slide out with the motor). It should pretty straight forward from there.
The light on the clock is even easier. The clock is retained with clips. A metal rule or credit card slide in the top should release it. It's then just a matter of replacing the tiny wedge type bulb.
