I am yet to crash a car, well except for the time I was playing in the driveway, aged 3, and let the handbrake off on dad's 280SE. Also pulled the Merc symbol off the bonnet a few times

Oh and the Murray ride on thread reminded me of those red trailers. I have one and three days after putting it together I backed it into a tree!

If you are going to get the buggy get the 250cc. This is what we have. They will out grow the 50 or 110 to quick and the throttle stop can be adjusted to restrict speed. It also means you will be able to have some fun in it as well. Get the 2 seater and you will be alongside him all the time. They are cheap Chinese so are not the best quality but not bad. Parts and spare engines etc are plentifull. About equivalent to the old Honda Odyssey buggies. Grease the seat runners with a Lanolin grease immediately. Also check tyre pressures as they have a habit of popping the beads on the tyres and then not deflating to recommended pressures. I found out the hard way after flipping ours on the first trip out and fracturing my ankle. Stuck out foot motorcycles style. 25 years of bike riding habits hard to break. Passenger and buggy were all ok.

Better still, why not teach him to fly? If you teach him to fly he'll learn about...

    Construction
    Design
    Aerodynamics
    Electronics
Engines and fuel if you go down the glow road.
And... most importantly he'll spend lots of time with adults interacting with them about something they both love. This can be quite valuable.
If he gets into this you'll also know where he is... ie downstairs building rather than wandering the neighbourhood.

    And... it's cheap too

He's got plenty of time to learn to drive.

I learnt to drive in a Datsun 120y paddock basher as a kid on a cattle property at age 10, when I was 17 and licenced, my mates were doing burnouts and cutting up, I wasnt interested as i had done it all before.Go ahead, it makes for a safer driver in the end.
