Hi all,
This is for the members that live near Ballarat (or I guess those who have lived there in the past).
It looks as though we may be making the move very soon from Grovedale to Ballarat.
We are looking at renting somewhere for about 6 months to get a feel for the place.
So I am just after the ins and outs I guess of where are places that we should/shouldn't be looking to rent in the area. Hopefully there aren't any 'bad' areas but I know where we live now there are parts you'd want to avoid.
Mind you the problem we seem to have at the moment looks as though our problem will be getting somewhere to rent where there is room undercover for the 130 with the roof tent on. Looks like we are going to have to sell the series III as par of the move too....(if anyone is interested).
Cheers Natalie

That's why I thought I'd just make a general post and hope for the best![]()
Hello Nat130, I currently live in Ballarat and have done
for quite a few years. Not feeling too nostalgic for the
old town at the moment, stabbing at the petrol station
at one end of the street at the start of the week and
an armed holdup (knife again) at the petrol station
at the other end of the street at the end of the week.
Getting very noisy and traffic is crap, although Ballarat
people expect to park out the front of where ever they go.
Ask away...
Tim
Thanks Tim...don't scare me though
My partner will be working in Sebastopol and I am hoping to soon be working in Mount Helen.
He was thinking about going somewhere around the lake or would we be better off near Mount Clear or somewhere like that?
It is only temporary until we find some acres to buy.
Cheers Nat
OK i lived there for some time....
Places NOT to live...
Wendoree West, Wendoree is ok as its near the Lake, but the West is the Ghetto
Sebastapol used to be bad, its getting better.....
The places you want to live
Black hill
Brown Hill
Wendoree on the Lake
Ballarat City
Ballarat East
The rest are nice, but a quick drive to the Black hill area will have you wanting to stay for ever.....
I lived in Ballarat East, just off Humphray St, it was a 1904 built Mansion for the Area.... 3 street frontages, so only 1 neighbor and the people who bought it have a 130..... i wonder if they are on the forum
Id move back tommorow to ballarat, i really like it. its nice and old and the work is plentyfull.
Steve
All I can say is make sure you have lots of winter gear. We visit Ballarat all the time (have friends there) but hate it during winter, its even colder than Hamilton.....good luck with everything.
Oh that means you will be another "out of towner".....also better chance of meeting up![]()

Hello Nat, sclarke's recommendations are very sound.
Black Hill is very nice as are quite a few part's of
Ballarat North, ie. Soldier's Hill. (Used to live in Armstrong Street North) Sebastopol is probably notone of more desirable areas, a bit like Wendouree West but the rent is cheaper and have more chance of getting a big shed for the Landy.
Mt Helen, Mt Clear, Sebastopol would put you close to work. Be warned that the roundabout were the tip road and Main Road met are terrible when Uni is in. Actually Main Road grinds to a halt between 8:00am and 9:00am when Uni is in.
Near the Lake is probably the pick although cover for the Landy might be a bit tougher. I live within a block of the lake, you can work into town, take the dogs around the Lake for a walk, close to parks etc. Choose
a side street with no through traffic.
My Wife has a two bedroom cottage for rent in
Windermere Street, old but freshly painted out since
the last lot of tenants set fire to it. No where to
park a Land Rover under cover however.
Tim.
PS. The Lake is actually a converted swamp, only about 6 inches deep at the moment.
