I remember a person of a certain ethnic background who opened her do into the path of a government bus - it peeled the door forward into the guard and bent the 'A' pillar pretty badly. Problem number one was that she owned a late model Merc, problem two was that it wasn't insured. When i asked her why not, she said, 'Oooh. insurance very expensive for dis car'.

Talk about false economy! And she SSSSSPewed when she got a $120 ticket for the offence...

Some twit did that to my daughter when she was about 13 years old . She has a huge scar for life now.

As said earlier. CHECK BEFORE OPENING DOORS! It is not funny at all!

I have often thought of doing that to motorcycle riders that run down between the line of cars. I stopped one bastard once, by moving in close to the car next to me!

As for cyclists, providing they ride in their "bike lane" I have no problem with them.
The dickheads who ride two abreast on a motor vehicle lane, are fair game

As for sorry Dads, accidents and scars, my youngest, (Son) was riding across a road, close to home, without looking, helmet on the handle bars holding a bottle of soft drink, when he was in year 12.
Why? That road was usually clear of traffic, so why look!

He rolled over the cars, bonnet, hit his head on the windscreen pillar and spent 7 days in intensive care with multible skull fractures. He is now 25 and still has no sense of taste or smell..

He also knows it was a really stupid thing to do!

Lucky he was OK but I bet he wasn't too pleased
Cyclists are not supposed to ride between lines of vehicles, but they do, so both in the wrong, Regards Frank.

No problems Greg. I was at work when it happened and was really mad at the missus for not reporting it to the police or at least taking down the other persons details.

it is completely legal to ride along beside parked cars (as stated was the case in the opening post of the thread)... if someone in the parked car opens their door, it is their mistake/problem if they open it into the path of an oncoming cyclist/truck/bus etc...

my personal experience of this type of thing was the nutter teenager up the street losing control in front of my house in the wet just after I had pulled up to the curb. I had one foot on the ground and was stepping out of the car and would have been pinned between the two vehicles had I not intentionally rocked back on my foot and fallen back inside the car - the tip of my shoe was torn off by the door being slammed shut by the out of control car coming the other way. a full length side swipe later and the feckin stupid driver had the temerity to claim it was my fault for parking there! (public street, in front of my own house, 20 other cars in the same street parked the same way, completely legal)...

    Look before you leap!

I had a simular thing when i had my S3 . I was parked at the side of the road when a mate was getting out. As he opened the door a rider rod straight into the end of the door. And he fell like a sack of Sh*t onto the floor. Same then me and my mate ****ed myself.
That sort of thing is right up my sense of humour

I'm sorry for Barryj's daughter as well,

But in this threads case the rider wasn't hurt.. and I think your description is pwiss funny. Your peoples skill are fine.

And yes the driver is at fault,,, but the rider has more at stake.. If I see three people in a parked car I usually look closely,, perhaps wide berth..

Driver at fault, rider at loss.. guess thats why they call it an accident. Darwin at play ?
