Hi Guys
My mobile seems to have died today.
Its making static/shorting noises no display.
NextG or what ever they call it,Who is happy with their handset in rural/fringe areas? What breed/model of PH? We have only had Nokia and been real happy.Would like a bit of info before I order a newbie.
Just put $50 credit on the plucking thing yesterday

Gday Andy, have just switched over to next g from digital and is comparable wife still has digi going so we can have the best (?) of both worlds some time one or the other doesnt have reception, whilst the other does ,tis supposed to get better once cdma is turned off and next g setup kicks into full power, and have gone for one of the palm trio pda type device phones
I have a sony ericson K608i, Unless you want a great camera with a crap phone attached then this is the phone for you.
I never get reception where I need it, it crashes any time im on an important call and wont hang up some times or calls people back with the key pad lock on.
It does take great photos though, panoramics, special effects and easy to down load and use but a crappy phone.
Stick with Nokia, Ive had just about every brand over the years and the Nokia's are about the only phones that could survive me and my job.

I think you are hitting on what the telstra shop I visited a few weeks ago told me.
No Nokias with the rural ticks
Only recomended a LG and a Telstra samsang or something.
They had Nokias, told me brilliant for inner city fast up/down loads etc put no good in the country.
Besides the 2 with the rural ticks everything else is poo in the country!!!!

If your going for the other system - 3G etc avoid Sony Ericsson. The one I got recently I selected because of the ability to connect to the external hi gain antenna - today went to get the cradle for it and am told by Sony Ericsson themselves that they are moving away from the hard wired ones to blue tooth.
I asked what about the antenna and their response was that no one wants the antennas.
Wrong - I want an external antenna

The Motorolas (V3x?) we have do the job, but they're a pig..
far too many programmes, sub programmes, menus, sub menus etc.
...even making a call is a pita, and 3 of them have chewed thru batteries in less than 18 months...
they have a 'torch' function which takes about ten keystrokes to illuminate...
...to ring my missus... to find her number and hit 'ring' takes about 20 keystrokes...
(setting up the preffered speed dial function requires the patience of an astronaut, or a gadget loving seven year old)
I have two fabulous NEC P3s here - which worked perfectly until some d1ck brain pollie said 'no more analog'....
2 tins and length of wire, fixed...
...or a 27mhz radio
having said that, telstra has been fantastic in supplying vast amounts of credit to offset their equipment/transmission failures, which means nought when you actually need a comms device in a genuinely serious situation...

I spent 45 minutes in the phone shop yesterday arguing for a new phone.
Had a Sony Ericsson K610i - Great little phone, but its just to unreliable. Back to the shop for the fourth time in 9 months yesterday.
Now have a Nokia (6233??) again - just a simple one but thats what I need, anything flashy that slides or flips will be guaranteed to be broken.
Stick with a simple nokia - apparently stay away from the N73.
Dave.
Why is it that every phone - even the ones from the same manufacturer need individual accessories.
I have had my current RR classic for over 20 years and am not looking to change it for a while. I got my first mobile/suitcase phone in 1989 and since then there have been 6 and if I can get one 7 different car kits.
.
- All I need is power to re-charge it.
- An antenna connection
- A speaker so I can hear it.
- A microphone so they can hear me.
- and possibly something so it turns down the radio.
Why can't that all be a set standard. Even if we have to Blue Tooth the last 3 - why cant the power and antenna be standardised.
At one stage I even bought a Protech kit because they advertised that they were future proof. That was until the next generation of phones came along!
Why did the pollies have to disable the analog network - it was great in the country - 20Km range with the 3 watt car kits. And we voted for them!!!!!
