not true...
those who own their own small business also tend to be liberal voters...
yeah - and farmers........
That's a big generilisation, plenty of small business owners don't vote liberal because they hate the a mount of work the GST has created for them. How many small business people do you really think have gone out and employed people because of AWA's???
Really? Have a think about how much more work this creates for small business again. You can't just check out the relevant award and employ someone based on those conditions.
Yet again the libs are making business owners administrators for the government. Not all business owners want the hassle of AWA's.... much like many workers.
Oh and yes I do employ people and own a small business
I am sick and tired of people complaining about the GST. As a builder I had to work with the pps system and I can tell you the GST is much easier. Lucky you did not have to work with the pps system if you find GST difficult as I find it very easy to work with.
I will be voting Liberal. The Labor party is full of ex unionists just waiting to tell the government what to do if Labor wins. If you think the unions will not start trying to flex their muscles you are dreaming. I was at a business today picking up some ordered items and had to listen to one of the workers complaining that because someone was away, it was 11 o'clock and he still had not had his morning tea and that is how people get sick. Give me a break. Probably has no idea about doing a real days work anyway. The sooner people are on awa's the better then perhaps people will actually need to put in to get payed and keep jobs. Some businesses may not need them but I can tell you I will only employ contractors now.
Rant over.

I will agree with amtravic1. The GST is a pain to do every quarter BUT it makes me keep my books up to date and it is SO much easier to do my tax return stuff because all of the figures have already been done for the GST.
Prior to the GST I never really knew if I was in front or behind for the year until I went to the accountant to do my tax. At least I know how things are going every quarter now.
And paying tax in advance on my indexed projected income (was that called Provisional Tax?) used to cr@p me off no end. Now, you pay the GST on actual sales which is much better for my cash flow.
agreed my statement is a generalisation, but do you really think labour will remove the GST? it's here for good... might as well get used to it!
for the AWA's, well you are probably right that many companies will not have employed extra staff over and above what was planned, however at least you know that when you do, your company will never be crippled by some less than satisfactory employee bleeding you dry month after month.
I'll admit I'm a white collar worker these days, but I used to work in the field day in, day out, on a fixed salary (no penalty rates, no smoko, no overtime, no RDO's etc) - this is the so called benefit of having a degree, you come in at a slightly higher rank, get paid less than a labourer by the hour and get the honour of working until the job is done with no added reward... after 10-15 years you get out of the feild and end up a desk jockey and work even longer hours still for a fixed wage (but obviously more money than you started on). I've got plenty of my team earning more than me due to penalty rates, overtime pay, transport allowances, meal allowances, offshore allowances etc etc and guess what, none of em want to change their role to a fixed wage... and I can't replace them with people who would take a salary - this is turn make my team less productive, less profitable and probably reduces the number of people employed by my employer by 15-25% overall.
Anyway, it's all swings and roundabouts but I feel AWA's are not before their time as all the people on salary have had individual contracts for decades!
Agree with you there Echidna, not saying scrap the GST etc etc, more pointing that Johnny Howard hasn't done things for the benefit of "Working Australia" (Hey I include small business in that only because half the time you'd be better off on a low income job putting your hand out each week! LOL)
Hear you about salary too, been there done that, nothing better than staff complaining to you about what they get paid when you know how much they are getting.... then you start dividing your salary by the hours "expected" and your earning less than them!
Not against the ability to strike a workplace agreement I just think the "award" system has a lot of advantages, especially for younger workers and those starting out in business who haven't gone and done maganement training etc.
It would be nice if we could strike a balance between the two.
Anyway enough from me, I'll leave it to others to have their say now!
i heard on the news tonight that there thousands who will not be able to vote because the government has changed a few rules and if you have changed address and notified them on the old form it will not be valid!it would seem johnny and his mates are running scared and don't want us to vote![]()
