I'm sure it did you no harm to have a Dad in the ADF :)
You sure don't look like it did, Pat:D
My kids hated the Army life and all the moving, now they think it was a bonus.
The poor buggers were brought up that way, even if the Mother In Law thought I was too harsh!
They tell me now they don't regret that life one bit. All are doing very well :D
Yes I was a WO1 and they had the RSM/WOD treatment!
Now you know why I like rules :p
Cheers
I think most of you have missed the point and to quote Numpty’s Missus, are being quite a bit Anal.
Like the first two trips, this one was primarily based on giving Landy owners, with limited or no off road experience, a safe, social based ( non competitive ) chance to take their respective vehicles off road.
The requirements of these three trips has been deliberately set to an absolute minimum so as not to intimidate anyone thinking of joining in on these trip.
To this end, in my opinion, all three trips have been a roaring success and particularly with reference to the large number that attended on Sunday, I think Inc, harry and loaded should be given a big round of applause for a difficult job, very well done.
So why not just leave it at that, a job well done and a great day out as a result of that well done job.
nahh as they past a stab at the loud pedal and a bit of right hand down to put the bull bar into the left hand rear corner and they pirroet nicely off to the left hand side of the road where I can easily and safely overtake them
but on a serious note....
Another easy point for the headlights thing is that with most new cars the headlights wont come on unless the engine isrunning or at least has the ignition switched on..
seeing the headlights in the rear view mirror is a simple reassurance from the vehicle behind saying yep its cool Im still running.
Totally agree Drivesafe.
As a newby to 4WDing and LR this year, I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about joining a club and going on these events (a la D'Aguilar ranges last Sunday). But I'm much more confident now after seeing "rules" applied and working.
ie a number of times on Sunday I lost the car in front in the dust and pulled up in case I ran into them. Once I could see I'd move on and find them at the next intersection.
I'm also was pretty anal (now there's a word that's been used a lot in this thread!) about waiting for the guy behind me at prop points and intersections because I want you guys to do the same for me!!
I do have one question on the convoy rules though. I may have missed this but do we ever discuss a highway cruising speed? I only ask because I like to belt along at the posted speed limit + 10% which is fine in a D3 but may not suit a 4 cylinder S1 (no offence anyone:))
Late edit - ...and I am happy to cruise along at whatever speed is deemed most suitable for all.
I've not contributed to this thread thus far but let me chime in here. In my experience with car clubs, it's the people down the back that always have to work hardest to keep up. Isn't too much of a problem on straight free running bitchy but when isn't it becomes a problem.
If there is an event that causes even a minor slowdown in the procession it seems to amplify. IE if the person up the front is doing 100 often the people down the back will have to do 110 or more to keep up at times.
So, if the guy up the front wants to do 110 I'm afraid sooner or later he's going to loose everyone. :o IMHO at these events you just have to get in the mindset of take you time and enjoy the scenery.
