A few from our client base...

Highest mileage dfender, (original) is a 1997 130 Dc with 330k, just fitted a new head due to water consumption/cracking, and 1 new conrod due to a hydraulic when starting...

Highest mileage Disco, a 1995 MA series, original 460k, 1 gearbox overhaul at 400K, and a head gasket at 420 odd K, and otherwise nil.
All of these allways had servicing on time, regular tappett adjustments and are owned by consciensious owners.
We have others of high K's, but these are the most obvious that spring to mind.
Good engines if they are treated well.

This is a copy from an earlier post I replied to this year:

I only wish I could say that I got some real miles out of my 200TDi. I bought the vehicle in Perth and the first motor went well before 80K when the timing belt failed and did some internal damage (you could say that it could have happened but Landrover said I should not expect to change it until 100K - knowing previous cars, I thought that was fair enough). I had the timing belt changed again in Darwin when a mechanic advised that 'it was time'. The car ... again... had not done the 100K. Then the crank broke up here in the NT and you can imagine what that did to the thing. It broke directly under the first cylinder and made my day. Finally it was sold when the motor started knocking and carrying on after a rebuild. Dissapointing as I was expecting big things from the 200 Tdi (after all - it had a very good reputation).

Additional to the things that I have stated went wrong with it - the fuel pump failed when I had done about 220K, the rear diff needed work at some stage after 100K (ish), the gearbox was modified at 120K, the turbo failed at 160(ish)K and then there was the required work on the axles and flanges etc. I also had no end of problems with water pumps and then there was the vehicles dis-like for water crossings... it just stopped.

Dissapointing as the car was, it was very capable off road, but I could not work out why it just kept failing me. I was told to sell it not too long after arriving in Darwin, when I had a mechanice look at it for some thing or another. Of course I kept it and he was surprised to see me with it when I got him to rebuild the motor when the crank broke.

I do miss it though as the vehicle just fitted me well and I found it very comfortable. One day I may consider another but for now - I shall stick to the series.

I was only talking to a mate the other day about the good run I have had with mine.Except for the head the only time I replace things is when they wear out through age or Km's.It has been that good I unfortunately can't justify getting a new one. That motor and six speed box would be nice to have. 298565 km in the Disco and counting.

No major probs, got the upgrades timing cover and backing plate, had 3 timing belts so far and getting another shortly, due 320000 as it has been done every 80k so far.

Ive done a water pump due to bearing movement but no leaks, cleaned out the radiator and intercooler while they were out.

1 lift pump and 1 kick down cable.

Leaks a bit of oil from the PCV valve and the rocker cover, has a small rear main leak and thats it.

The rest of the car is falling apart around the engine which is why I bought a diesel so Im happy.

What's the record for a TD5? Mine is 138,000km. Surely there must be many more well over that....

Heh, as far as I can tell (not so easy since the speedo's not original) our 110's done aroun 370k. And it's still behaving...touch wood. Then again, it's not the diesel naturally.

What actually goes wrong with the diesels? Heh just curious. Or is a variety of goodies and you dont know until ya get there?
