I think the point of difference is in the advertising relative to brand; Toyota push the current 70 series as newer, (a classic case of advertisings use of weasel words: newer than what?) whereas LandRover don't try and pass off the 'fender in the same way...

$49k for a new 'fender is also about $12k less than the 'yota 70 equivalent... aircon is still an option on the T70 wagon...

Toyotas website also has some curious figures re 'power'

I think you'll find the 650 of Mr Isaac Newton's per metre are for the twin turbo jobby in the 200 Series wagon.

How many gearboxes, t/cases and diffs do we all reckon would be grenaded with 650Nm in a 79 series ute or 76 series wagon ?

yep, particularly like the virus one !

apparently the engine oil sludge that has plagued US Toyota's (and a few Chryslers and VW's too) is related to engine oil pooling (not draining properly) in cylinder heads and becoming heat soaked/superheated after shutdown. People I've talked to in the US point a fairly strong finger at low quality oil. Quite a lot were inadequate servicing too.

mmmmm, interesting, i wonder how this will get covered up, maybe they should talk to nissan and find out what to do, this is of course if its true. :D

There's now quiet a few LC 70's getting around up here. So far I haven't heard of any problems with the engine but the way these will get flogged will make for some interesting feedback. Certainly not as bad as the 100 series when it first came out bits fell off them everywhere (especially the spare tyre!)

Yep I heard they were having problems.

I know power sell's but how much do you need?What do people tow where you need 650 nm of torque?For me I'd rather have fuel economy and long service intervals than power I don't use or need.I think they are kidding themselves that the diesel will get 10 ltrs per hundred and the V8 14. Pat

This thread is only dealing with the engine that may be broken. What about the styling of the 76 series that is stuffed to buggery! Talk about cocking up an arguably classic design. It WAS a close third behind the Defender and Jeep Wrangler IMHO.

And the fact that the front track is wider than the rear track!! :eek:

Another rumour is that it is causing some stability problems on loose gravel.

Well the 70 series wagon is just an early 90's prado body from overseas anyway, so it technically is new australia :angel:
