    Beach camping around Albany WA?

As above - is it possible? Legal? Any suggested spots? and how likely is it to be packed this time of year?

    G'day Ben,

Yes, there are heaps of great spots to camp but some places are kept off the maps which is kinda good at controlling numbers .

To the west of Albany there are legal spots to camp all the way to Denmark and beyond. I reckon you should grab a copy of "Roads and Tracks Westrn Australia" - not hugely detailed but shows you the general area then leaves the exploring up to you. A lot of good spots come off the Lower Denmark Rd, try Hidden Valley (near the wind farm), Muttonbird Island (good snorkelling/diving if nice weather, try camping grounds around Torbay inlet, Perkins beach, Shelley Beach near West Cape Howe Nat Prk - very, very nice with easy but spectacular 4WDriving in the reserve, could go on but we really don't want to many people knowing about these spots, do we...

To the east you can still camp at Bettys Beach - a popular salmon fishing beach - and Normans Beach. Waychinicup (sp??????) Nat Pk still allows camping but has a rough rd in and no caravans allowed - Yay - beautiful spot. Most of the places are nice and clean and don't appear to be trashed by #$%@^&*! If you head off before Xmas there will be places that are not packed but you are better off poking around some of the tracks/sites if you are able to, before settling on a place to camp - enjoy

If you find more spots to camp don't tell anyone but me...

I have stayed at Torbay inlet, great camping close to the beach.

There are some good tracks to other beaches and fishing spots in the area, just a warning, the beach sand on most of the beaches, especially as you go further west, can get very soft.

Thanks very much guys! I have been down there before (in winter) and found some great spots, just wasn't sure what the rules were. I take it there are no fees or permits?

    Fees!

    For camping down south?

You'd have to ask an Eastern stater about those cause apart from a few national parks most are free down that way .

Most are not free anymore. You must be missing the signs. Anything controlled by Calm will attract an entry and camping fee, most council run ones attract a fee as well. There are a few true free sites but not to many.
