    Rangie & Disco maintanence advice.

    G'day all,

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Rangie. This will be my first 4by and my only knowledge of LRs comes from the little experience I gained driving and servicing 110s in the army some 12 plus years ago and from what I have read in 4WD Action. My greatest concern is the cost of maintaining them as opposed to the jap models. Are the routine service parts such as air, oil and fuel filters, hoses, belts, plugs etc much more expensive (if at all) than jap models? And how easy are they to obtain?

I'm happy to do the basic oil, filter & plug changes myself so obviously will save on some labour costs.

Are there any common problems I should be aware of aside from the normal defects of any vehicle? I have always liked the look of the Rangies and the sound of the bent 8 but (obviously) know little about them. Also, what price should I expect to pay for a reasonable Rangie?

Any thoughts on Discos? BTW, I require an auto due to having only one arm. I'm open to having petrol V8 or a diesel.
Use will be touring, some beach work, and bush tracks of moderate to interesting. I'm not interested in doing extreme/comp type work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.
