Diesel $1.53.9 in Esperance.:(
I drove into a servo in Brookvale yesterday and it was $1.49, I drove out to the other discount servos and they were $1.56 and $1.53, so I went back to the first one. It's a new one and even the pumps are clean, I hate leaving a servo with diesel smelling hands.

diesel $1.41
petrol $1.35:mad:
fuelled the company car at caltex Mandurah price for ULP was 1.30 price for diesel was 1.51
quick mental calculation shows company pricing is taking into account the difference in fuel efficiency of diesel and charging extra for it.
how they can justify differential pricing for diesel is beyond me given cheaper produciton costs and comparable distribution costs.
and what has changed in world to justify price hike
iraq still at war
china still booming
india still booming
iran still playing politics of nuclear technology wiht USA
turkey and kurds still hate one another
pricing hikes are purely speculative profit by short term futures brokers pushing spot price of oil higher
beginning of year all the above risks were used to justify price hike to 40 a barrel same risks now justify 100 a barrel
Filled up the other day at 2.64$.
There again that was in rip off UK. Diesel is more expensive then petrol and simple reason is extra taxation. About 70% of price we pay is tax. In UK we actually pay tax on tax. We are charged 17.5% VAT on the fuel tax.
Currently paying 59p fuel tax PLUS 17.5% VAT on the full price of the fuel which is about 16.5p/litre. We pay 75.5 p (1.81$) tax on diesel at £1.10/litre
Put another way we pay more in tax for fuel then Australia pays for its fuel!
Fuel tax went up in October 07 at 2p/litre and it is already planned to go up in April 08 and April 09. There again I am betting they will sneak another one in October 08 as well.

Local Woolies servo was 1.59 before discount, must have gold flakes in it. this was tonite at 10PM
But now we have Nicaragua threatening to turn off the supply to USA, so US is in a panic and buying like crazy to build reserves. Nicaragua is the US's 4th largest source, so it will put a dent in their supply, plus with panic-driven demand, the price goes crazy.
But I think the fuel prices are surprizingly cheap considering that in 2003 oil was US$30 a barrel, and today it's hovering around US$100. In 4 years oil has gone up 333% but fuel at the bowser has only gone up by 100%. The oil companies must be "Hurting" badly as their margins erode!
What can I say - time to check out the alternatives. These folks seem to have the right idea....

and just so you don't think its just the Yanks working on this kind of thing

of course we'd need to consider proper IP68 sealing on all the electrics - better not let Lucas at it:wasntme:
Naturally it's not the silver bullet solution yet due to Australia's need for long range travel but it's getting there.....
Hmm, chasing up some research but you could do a basic DC conversion using a second hand motor, curtis controller and lead acid batteries for between $7k and $10k - of course if you wanted to go the whole hog on Li-Ion etc the price does tend to go up :o
