Personally I never intend to EVER buy a new car. IMHO it is just a waste of money - but that is just me. I would prefer to spend MUCH LOWER sums of money maintaining and upgrading my 110 county, which I plan to drive as long as there is oil/biofuel to run and lubricate it.

I wouldn't mind a set of rear seats from a new defender though, and the bonnet would give me much more room to fit the intercooler and turbo, but that is about it. 6-speed would be nice, but the 3.9 would probably eat it for lunch...

    much the same here.
A lower first would be nice like the new six speed, but a VNT on the Tdi or a 2.8HS would overcome that and is a lot cheaper than a newbie.

And the one and only decent diff in a Rover doesn't exist any more in the new ones

Old isn't necessarily bad and new isn't necessarily better

Nah mate stick with what you know. I look at them and some of the features (like an aircon that works) would be sort of nice but really the money is better spent elsewhere.

Well, not a waste, but def not the cheapest option. The world needs people to buy new cars so that there can be secondhand ones on the market futher down the track....

Well I'm buying new because I am a troublemaker who believes it is my God given right to be a right pain in the @rse to the dealer for three years under warranty and I can't put a price on that kind of entertainment.

"Excuse me, but the left hand hinge on the console lid is squeaking - please replace the console... and whilst you're at it, the writing on the hubcaps is crooked, please replace and re-align all the wheels..."

Plus I'm buying for my business so the government is kicking in the GST for me .

A brand new Defender for $46,500 is pretty good I reckon.

A very good point that I had forgotten! Mine is for business too, so I guess I can claim the GST back as well.

I am picking mine up this afternoon. Just waiting for the window tinting to be done and then I can get my hands on it.
