I voted and I respect the voice of Australians who decided that it was time for a change. My only wish was that who ever won the election would do the right thing for all of us; Labor or Liberal.
The only thing that annoys me is the name calling that I've been witness to in the past 36 hours. The majority of it has been directed at John Howard and I am not going to lower myself to the standard of the people who mouthed off by repeating what I heard. Reading some of the comments on this forum it has carried over here as well, to a lesser degree. I was gob smacked by the attitude of people lined up to get into the National Tally room '...to watch the downfall of Howard and to see he gets what he deserves...' If Mr Howard was so bad how come he, and his party, survived for 11 years after all the people had the power to vote him out. I just fail to understand the viciousnes that has come out in some people. The were acting like a pack of rabid dogs waiting to tear at a carcass; very unAustralian. Why can't people be civilised and show some respect for a fellow human being.
The same disrespect has been directed already at Mr Rudd, quite underservedly. Give the man a go and respect his position without the name calling.
I know that the Libs favoured big business; in their hip pockect as someone wrote. But just remember that the unions have invested $30 million dollars in Labor and they will want a return on their investment. With that in mind I honestly don't think Mr Rudd will survive as leader, he is too conservative and too much the nice guy. I personally think he will be deposed within 18 months to 2 years in favour of Ms Gillard.
Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion but let's drop the name calling and pull together to keep this nation as great as it is.
Cheers,

It seems to be a general lack of respect for anything you don't like - bit like a spoilt kid.
I think a few of us (Australians) need to take a powder and have a bit of lie down....it's all over and the sun came up this morning - so lets get on with it - fixing, driving and talking Land Rovers that is![]()
In fact the rise in house prices is a show that the goverment is doing the right thing. After all the econmoy is strong which leads people to have more money which leads to higher house prices.
It annoyed me that people bkaqmed John Howard for the fact that houses had gone up in price. What would they rather the economy gone to crap and house prices hitting the floor and then everyones house not being worth anything as no one is buying houses as they have no money .
So if the goverment it to blame for high house prices. It is only because they have given us a great economy and low unemployment and now money in the economy

Did Johnny also brake the drought or is that Kev's work?
By some of the things attributed to lil johnny in this thread he should be given a sainthood instead of just calling him a biggoted, racist, mean spirted, mean and tricky, lying bully who got well booted out.
Not bad for a joke post, 14 pages of pure tears, happiness & even some budding political analists..... isn't life wonderful people.![]()

Craig, Landcorp have no effect here as they don't sell land in Esperance. And most of the land around Perth is in private 'land banks'. Passing on infrastructure costs is not new. Govt has been making developers pay headworks contributions and all development costs for decades. But this is all State Govt, not federal.
In Hopetoun they listed the first stage at prices averaged from valuations. They had over 300 submissions for a handful of lots. Each time they increased the value levels and each time there was more than enough demand.
Don't get me wrong, I really feel for some of the battlers who were squeezed out of Hopetoun due to massive increases in rent.
Furthermore, the cost of development of the land was very high. earthworks etc are all undertaken by private contractors who have plenty of work elsewhere in WA, so won't go to a place like Hopetoun without a bit of extra incentive.
The govt doesn't control the builders here but they're charging over $1300 per m2 to build brick veneer project homes. (and around $2000 in Hopetoun)
There are still affordable houses in the market, but kids don't want units or fibro houses or 2 bed shacks like the rest of us started out with. They want 4 beds, two bathrooms, double garage, shed, boat etc etc straight up.
Prices are market driven, not govt. Irrespective of whether that's labor or liberal. The only way a govt can bring them down is to stuff the economy and force recession, which nowadays given the high level of negative gearing in this country, would destroy many people. So I can't see mr rudd doing anything to bring down prices or making it easier, any more than mr howard did.
The only ones who can have any mitigating effect are state govts by abolishing stamp duty and other abominable taxes like that.
