Yes, S3 Discos are very impressive offroad...

I think 46 all round is too high anyway.
On the road tyres, I run 38/42 on the bitumen and 34/36 on the gravel. Perfect for my setup.

Allan Whiting did an article in 4x4Australia on tyre pressures and said that 16 was the right pressure for the oe D3 tyres on the sand. I've never driven on Stockton Beach, but it's obviously a bit harder than here. With the road tyres I needed to go to 10psi to get forward motion. Anything less and the 60 profile doesn't bag out enough. When I've got the STT's on, I go to 16psi and it's like running on rails!

I think I'd have been at about 28psi for a firetrail, depending upon load.

It's something you have to work out yourself. I've got things like bar, winch, wheel carriers etc which all add weight.

And, you're right! The Discovery 3 is very impressive off road.

If you want to be that pedantic then we shouldn't be driving on tracks at all as no matter what pressure, you're going to make an impression of some sort. However, I still stand by my last comment as it's the wheel spin that'll cause the most damage.

Actually...

One of the things I've noticed lately is that ruts are generally getting deeper... This I can only put down to peoples obsession with sticking bigger tyres on their trucks.

Yep the electronics in the new Range Rovers and Discover 3s makes experts out of us amateurs.

I’d like to see a genuine competition between one of these new LRs and some of the new Jap crap, because to my knowledge, the jap crap does not assist the driver anywhere near as much as the new RR and D3 does.

For me, in my third week of 4wd'ing, it wasnt the ruts that annoyed me, it was the thirteen old beer boxes that filled the back of my car that i picked up on the sides of the tracks. I also saw one fridge, which i wouldnt have been able to fill up. I know beer boxes would more than likely break down fairly quick, but where is the respect? Its just not pretty anyways.

The D3 truely is a wonder off road, i have been out with a few now, including RR Sports and they are magic.
