Anybody done the Mornington-Diamond Gorge track (Kimberley)

    Hi All

We are in the fortunate position of having become a bit bored with the Gibb River Road and we are thinking of getting off at Mt House and heading south down to Diamond gorge and whatever else might be down there.

Anybod know the area and have an opinion?

Any other tips about what is nice "beyond" the GRR would be very gratefully received. We've been up the Mitchell Falls Road already.

    cheers

I did it about 4 or 5 years ago in my lifted 1975 Kingswood ute.

I would rate that part of Australia as possibly my favourite so far!

We will be heading out in July.

Thanks Jon - it is a lovely area, we can't help but feel that we are missing something sticking to the main GRR. You hear stories like "a mate of a mate lived on XXXX station and said the gorges, campsites we 5 times better than anything of the GRR".

If it is your first trip LRH then it's real easy, EVERYTHING is recommended.

Gibb River Road and all gorges along it from the Derby to Kunnie (or the other way). I love Barnett Gorge for camping but it's all good.

If you have time then a bypass up to Mitchell Falls is pretty spectacular.

Below the GRR, off the road to Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing is the Winjanna Gorge and Tunnel Creek.

THX, yup it will be our first and I have been told not the last visit to the Kimberley region.

We leave Sydney in mid June for 4-5 months on the West Coast via Alice and the Tanami
