    nsw assisstance

    Hi,

i need some assistance from some nsw people.

i am doing a couple of favours for a client and need to check up on some motor vehicles registered in NSW. In VIC you can do a paid search on the vicroads website and it lists details of the car such as description, engine no, chass and also if its been written off and re-registered.

can you do this in NSW? i have been looking on the rta website but can't find it.

    Ta

    g'day,

Try the "myRTA.com" section - then select "myRecords". I don't know how much information it will give you, but it says you can check the registration and CTP insurance details of a second-hand vehicle that you’re thinking of buying.
There's also the written-off vehicles register, but I believe that's separate.

    car dealers, what criminals.

the client i was helping (who really does not know much about cars) was intending on buying cars for his children and i stopped him buying 2 cars as they were from a used car dealer and he really hadn't looked into it properly.

a couple of subsequent searches revealed these cars had come from NSW, and were registered on the Writeoff register as code M - Full Fresh Immersion...

Apparently you can re-register these cars but they are listed on a nation wide register.

Suffice to say the sale did not proceed......

And i did get a call from one very very cranky salesman......

the things i do for clients...

If the REVS check is the my records pre purchase check on the RTA website, then no i can't.

You need a NSW drivers license.

but i used my brothers so all sorted.

Its definately easier and less beauracratic to do this stuff in VIC....

These are all the Newcastle/Hunter flooding cars from a couple of months ago. Mostly been in storage while the insurance try to avoid paying out on them or for the swamp smell to dissappear.

Very few of them will be found in Newcastle or even Sydney, because it is too easy to find out the data and depress the price.

So they will probably be turning up in Brissy, Melbourne and Adelaide just about now.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

REVS - Register of Encumbered Vehicles
Try here, I'm pretty sure it will list write offs, it definitely lists stolen and encumbered vehicles.
