I think even Rick would be too young to remember those.

They were very efficient as the liquid was in direct contact with the float chamber & pipes & no liquid/gas mix that you got on dry expansion gear.

    *** Word of caution.

It may still contain liquid Sulphur Dioxide or Methyl Chloride, a facefull of either would not make your day.

Sometimes the gases were isolated & stored in there so be extremely careful if you start pulling it to bits Certainly eye protection & if MC, good ventilation & away from naked flames.

Ed. Just had an close look at the fittings. There does not appear to be any isolation valves on it so should be ok gas wise. Still be careful of any saturated oil it may contain though.

Looking at the numerics, it is definately Russian, It's only a piece of space junk. Probably an old Soviet cold war missile fragment from a test fire.
I don't think any were armed when tested, but if it glows in the dark, then there might be some remnants of spent plutonium. If that's the case, just bury it in the back yard for a couple of thousand years and it'll cool down.

It's upside down. The tubular section would normally contain a float level valve with it being fixed to the face plate.
It is called a Low Side Float in the game. HP liquid come into the small fitting & it's regulated by the float. It expands as it goes through the needle assy in the face plate & becomes Low Pressure liquid.

It's normally flooded with liquid refrigerant Sulphur Dioxide or Methyl Chloride, not usually Freon 12. Not Ammonia because it's probably built from copper or brass.

The number is a S/N & could be possibly a Kelvinator assy.

The float maintains a constant level & is topped up as it boils off.

The slots are for ice block trays. Fill 'em with water & away you go (in time) Probalby had a copper door to it.

I would date it 1930 - 50s but possibly earlier into the 1920s.

    Hope this helps.
    Yes of course, brilliant.

Think I even had one of those fridges a while back.

Thanks, and now, since it probably isn't space junk, off to the recyclers.

    Cheers

I bet with some slight modifications it will make an excellent cooker/water heater...

If you really dont want it Im interested in it for its alternative uses.
