Well Ive had a crap day!

    Hi All,
Hope you all dont mind but I need to type this down to clear my head before going to bed. If you didnt know Im a vol firefighter with a urban brigade hear in Hamilton Vic.

Yesterday at 16:00 we got a job for adult male trapped in a huge grain solo (approx 200ft wide x 100ft high).......Long story short after three hrs trying to rescue him he died a horrible death drowning in conola seed.......we did everything possible to get him out , but he was right in the centre and everytime he moved the seed coverd him a bit more, and of course impossible to say "stay claim mate its alright".....but it is still very hard to deal with when I can still hear his crying and yelling out pleading for us to save his life............... he knew he was going to die.

So as Ive just got home and wont be able to sleep I thought I would feel better writing this, eventhough we are not meant to pass any info on about the job, but nobody from this site lives near here anyway......

I dont want to sound like a sook, Ive been to many fatal jobs before but this is much differant because one minute he was there next he wasnt and it dragged on for so long (12 hrs), he couldnt be removed for about eight hrs after his death was called...........thats one thing I cant get out of my mind when at the job I knew he was still in the solo......

Also my problem is as an ex officer of the brigade I make it my job to make sure everbody is ok but mainly the younger members which this was there first fatal job and watch out for them, but after a while I fall apart a bit as Im looking after everybody else but forgetting about looking after myself.........so this is my way of destressing.

Anyway Im off to bed, catch you all later, and thanks for this great forum where I can unload my crap day

PS Im sorry if my spelling isnt right, but to be honest I really dont give a poo at the mo.......

I'm sorry to hear you weren't successful amshaw, it even made it on to the radio news up here in Brisbane.

However you tried your best which is all that can be asked of anyone.

I hope you manage to get some sleep.

We all appreciate what you and those like you do.

    G'day Amshaw

My feelings go out to you, those memories never leave you, and they stay in your mind, 39 years ago I was driving a tow truck one of several called to a fatal accident outside of Brisbane, 3 killed 4 injured, and I can clearly remember being on the end of a rope with a torch, searching for a 14 year old girl's arm, we had the body but the arm was missing, things like that never leave you mind (well, not my 23yr old one anyway) my first bad fatal, long before any type of counceling, one just had to keep on keeping on yes, it is hard, but now you and your crew have access to professional backup services.

    Uncle Ho
