"Still don't know why they shut down the Kalgoorlie dealership. The mechanic there wasn't going anywhere, and they seemed to be doing a reasonable trade..."

It doesn't explain why Bunbury and Narrogin were stripped of their franchise either, both of which are still in business. I guess Land Rover just aren't interested in selling and servicing cars in the country. Makes me wonder how much longer the company can survive with strange policy like this

I believe the original plan was for all LR dealerships to be relocated to Ford dealers globally and now Ford are selling LR this will not happen.

Its a shame really, because if Ford had done what GM's doing with Hummer they might actually have sold more Land Rovers. Hummer dealers seem to be popping up all over the country... now that is scary

    Unhappy Land Rover dealers?

I've thought a lot about another new Defender and so has a mate who's had his from new.
He won't be buying another LR product for just that reason, no servicing facility outside of Perth.
After my last experience with a Td5 not being able to be diagnosed even, let alone actually being fixed when in Newman, put me off LR products for ever.
Nearest dealer was Karratha but LR to their credit arranged for it (plus camper) to be taken to Perth and we were glad of that as we would have been sitting in Karratha waiting for weeks for it to arrive due to the intransigence of the trucking company.
Regardless of whether it is new or not and regardless of what the RAC/LR say they will not transport vehicles with any non standard equipment in them. This is to save the driver being accused if stuff goes missing and from what I've been told is a direct result of owners making false claims for stuff which they never had in the first place!
So buying new and expecting help from them is not going to get over the problem of not being able to get it fixed anywhere except Perth and Perth is bloody long way from anywhere!
My son who is a long time RR owner and is after a new vehicle will now go to Toyota partly for that reason as well.
Still I suppose their arguement would be that over 90% of their vehicles never leave the road anyway so it's not a problem.
I'm an unhappy LR Owner who really wants a new car not made in Japan.

Why do you all think that toyota has taken over. The first thing Tata should do is reverse the trend off closing country dealers or better still support the independent mechanics and parts suppliers. There is no good mechanics for any model vehicle in Kal I have been told by a few people. Pat

Now now Craig, let's do that water crossing when you come to it, the one you've got is only a puppy.

    Hi Alan
Its such a shame your ruined holiday led you to selling the TD5 Fender. These Nanocom units we are waiting for would have diagnosed the fault and you could have had the parts sent up within a day for a DIY fix.
NO EXCUSE FOR LANDROVER HAVING ZERO COUNTRY DEALER BACKUP IN WA!!!!
I always carry my RAVE CD in the D2,at least if you are stranded it gives you half a chance if the mechanic can use or has a computer!!!

    LR Delaerships/.

I usually carry my manual with me and will start keeping the RAVE Cd in it as you do Andy to assist in the event of something nasty happening.
We can only hope Tata will fix the lack of country service centres but it'll take a longtime to get my confidence back.
Meanwhile I'll stick to the 300Tdi Defender and maybe keep looking for something from the "darkside"!!! But I ain't happy about it!
    Happy LRing.

Look up Jim Ah Chee Pat. He's a very good mechanic and will work on pretty much anything. While he hasn't done anything on either of my Disco's, he did all the work on my F100 and looks after SWMBO's shopping trolley. I've known him for years and have never heard a bad word said by anyone about his work.

I can definitely tell you who to steer clear of in Kal, but better not go making derogatory comments mentioning business names on here.

At the moment, I'm travelling up & down between Kal & Perth on a regular basis, so have managed to get my Disco into Rovertech in Perth for a couple of jobs that need doing. But that will all stop after this next trip, as I'll leave the Disco in Kal and have been given a Peugot Diesel to run around in down there as a work vehicle.

I do the same as LandyAndy has said - have managed to load Rave onto the hard drive on my laptop and also have another copy on a flash drive that I leave in the glovebox of the Disco so have a copy wherever I am - hopefully it'll be like spare fan belts and radiator hoses - if you carry them you'll never have a need for them.
    Cheers .........

Try about $2,500 per week to rent a house (4 bedrooms etc)

The contractors on our campsite get their accom as part of their wages, but their company are paying $2,100 per week for a small cabin on the campsite.

Sparkies I was talking to are working on a local building development are getting paid $40-45 per hour plus car and accommodation, but they seem to work all hours.
