    Karratha Landrover Closing Down

Looks like after 25 years Karratha Landrover is closing down. That leaves no dealer north of Perth in WA. Is a shame as they were not too bad as dealers go.

If I break down Landrover will be up for a woppa of a bill for Roadside assistance transport to Perth to a dealer.

The Ford dealer recently closed their doors here as well about two months ago. Lack of mechanics and staff they said, usual story here and true. I have never seen so many novated lease F250's in one place.

Most mechanics head for the mines where they get paid the "big bucks".

    Thumbs down

Thats a shame, I bought both of our landrovers of Lance ,both sight unseen and had no probs with eather of them, or any after sales asist and I was living 1700 kms south of Karratha at the time.

Typical. I think Albany is the only LR dealer / service centre outside Perth in WA. Absolutely stupid and why I probablly will not buy a new high tech LR next. I do not want to have to drive or have car freighted 500-800kms every time something needs doing.
At least get some service agents.

I would have thought they get paid the big bucks at Karratha too? My in-laws are working there at the moment, and the salaries they are paying people is unbelievable - even T.A.'s can get close to or above 6 figures ...

    That sucks
Lance is a good bloke from all the dealings I have had with him.
I too would be anxious about a new Rover with nearest dealer being 1600 km away. Glad I've got an old one that I can do it all on myself
There are some good suppliers interstate that will send out parts so parts are not an issue, its just the time to do things

Its no surprise... go up to rural WA, pilbara and kimberly - if your LR breaks down - tough mate.

No mechanic will touch it cos they are too busy with the Toyota and Nissans up there from all the mines.

This is one of the big problems with the mining boom. How does a local business owner attract or keep staff when rents are around the $1000+ p/wk in a town like Karratha.
As well as any one with a trade should be able to get into the mining game and earn a lot more money.

Still don't know why they shut down the Kalgoorlie dealership. The mechanic there wasn't going anywhere, and they seemed to be doing a reasonable trade (were also the local Ssangyong and Honda dealership).

It's definitely making it harder to justify buying a Landrover in WA if you live outside the metro area.
    Cheers .........

Yep, Lance is a top person. Sold Landrovers all over the state from Karratha as he would rather do you a good turn or no turn at all.

    BM,
They had not been making money for a while. Takes a busy workshop and a decent level of car and aftermarket part sales to remain open. I know when Rae bought it from Barbagallo it all looked good on paper, but the profit was not there. So it went back to Barbagallo. Shame cause Rae and her team were fantastic to deal with as was Brett when he was managing it. Sad to say but I think it needs to be a minor franchise with a bigger brand. I would have thought Ford would have taken this up and that was the info I got when Ford took over.
Its not the sales too much that worry me, you can buy froma anywhere, though it was nice to be able to buy in Kalgoorlie (2 LRs through them) but you should at least be able to get servicing and warranty work done.
As much as i would love a new Defender in a year or 2 I dont think it will happen and I may have to turn to the dark side.
