i have only used tirfor band...i think, handy bit of kit except they heavy and hard work

The hard work bit is actually and attraction to me. I need energy sapping activities.

Big Haul Hand Winch

The Big Haul Hand Winch is a great addition to any recovery kit. This lightweight and simple to use hand winch comes in 3 sizes:

- 1.5T of pull, and 800kg of lift.
- 2.5T of pull, and 1600kg of lift.
- 4.8T of pull, and 3200kg of lift.

It comes complete with 20m of wire rope, and safety features include a shearing pin. It has a smooth aluminum housing, and a large flat base for increased stability.

Id be looking at the biggest one.

I think I've got that one.

Oops, that'd be Tuff Pull, not Big Haul.

Double entendre, what?




More junk from the shed.

A PWB Anchor, Beaver Tuff Pull, Tirfor 516 or something like that.

Someone will probably correct me, it's been a while since I check all this stuff out. The original patent belonged to Tirfor, lots of companies make copies under patent.

Beaver make two types, so does Tirfor, Big Haul has an aluminium body, Tuff Pull has steel body. Both are rated to the same lift. I don't know if the Tuff Pull has the same pulling-along-the-ground rating.

16mm wire rope is quite heavy and takes up a lot of space.

I believe Big Haul is made in the US. Friends who have one have made positive comments. I have the ARB Magnum handwinch - a copy made in China.

My other option is the tjm winch, which is about half the price. Im concerned about quality, and as the saying goes.... You get what you pay for ?
