Here is a "cut and paste" from another website of an Australian owner with the new 200 series.
"Well my new 200 series twin TD Sahara Cruiser finally arrived 10

The Patrol and Landcruiser were always sort off in the same playing
field, this is no longer the case the handling, comfort, finish and
power (lots and lots of power) of the Cruiser is far ahead of the

Sahara TD with all its whistles and bells (lots of bells that give
you the ****s after a while)
Power:
If you want to tow anything, I would rip out and place your order
NOW!!! this thing pulls like nothing else, you do not even know that
you are towing the Kimberley Karavan. At take off there is no turbo lag at all and in fact you can take off in second gear and not tell the difference,
when you hit a hill with the cruise control set at 100k there is no
sign off slowing down, in fact going uphill in the overtaking lane
you can put the foot down and push it to 120k no problems.
Suspension:
Cornering and handling is superb with a little body roll at first
then every thing firms up, I think this may be when the new Kinetic
suspension kicks in. When the Kimberley Karavan is hitched up, the rear drops about 50mm, no where near as bad as the 100 series with out upgrades. I think that if you are going to be doing a lot of towing off road you will have to do something with the rear springs and shocks, as an
interim thing I am going the fit air bags in the springs.
Fuel:
This is the bad one. When Toyota said the fuel consumption was 10.3
Lt/100k they did not tell you that they towed it to the top of mount
Fuji, pushed it off and measure the economy on the way down (well
that's how I think they did it)
According to the on board Toyota computer the real figures are:
Highway not towing: 12lt/100k
City not towing: 16lt/100k
Highway towing: 17lt/100k
City towing: 20lt/100k
These figures are are about the same or just slightly better then my
previous 100 series.
This leads to the only real problem with the car and that's the fuel
range. Toyota decided to fit only 1 x 93lt tank to the TD Sahara and
TD VX, with all other models getting a second 39lt tank. This being
the case the Landcruiser can no longer be called "King of the Off
road" as it does not carry enough fuel to get off road!
As they say 'Where there's a will, there's a way'.So give me time
and I will solve this problem, but for now it looks like we will be
carrying Jerry cans. (My old cruiser holds 280lts)
In summary this cruiser has way out seeded my expectations and is an
awesome car to drive, especially towing".
There you go, another confirmation that the economy isn't that good but then again you get a lot of power and torque for the capacity.
I'll keep my D3 for towing duties. No problems with automatic self levelling with the air suspension towing our Kimberely Karavan (2000kg fully loaded)and also much better fuel economy.

Well I suppose driving a car towing a van which is attached on a dyno in a lab is still technically towing.
What can I say 6yr old TD5 disco (auto) towing a 1.3t car trailor with a 2.1t Rangie on the back city and up hill highway driving = 8.64l/100km
That's curious, the TTDV8 does not appear to be available in the USA market which gets a petrol 5.7 V8. Did he import it?Quote:
