I hate to let you in on a secret but the LROC do run trips every month sometime three a month now for at least the last 12 years that I've been a member, there is not one month go's by that I do not go 4x4 driving with members of the club, some are for weeks on end...it's about commitment...putting your hand up (I've only been retired for 2 years incase you ask).
When the trip co-ordinator continually asks for members to help him run trips...deathly silence...you only here about complaints from those that do nothing within the club, the whinging clique...there are plenty of them
Plenty of guys never go to meetings or ever have been on a committee but go touring, off roading or just restore their favourite pile of scrap.
[quote/but my impressions arfter joining were not too positive as "the club" were interested in doing too many other things it didn't seem to have time to organise or run off road day trips.]
The "club" is the members, no god like body that materialise things for you/others to fill in on the odd day off, its at a whim of some member wanting to take his fellow members on a journey to his favourite haunt or just to enjoy others company out of the goodness of their heart.
Unfortunately a lot of effort & energy goes into "one day events" & not core issues within the club.
Anyway thats enough from me :D
I totally agree with your comments. I for one have only been a member of the club since the expo this year however, due to my residential locality and shiftwork, attending a meeting is unfortunately not a viable option for me. I do enjoy going on the LROC trips I can attend, and would have no hesitation helping organise one. Personally I feel an LROC forum would assist myself into becoming a more active member in the clubs activities.
Good one Baz.
I have run dog friendly trips infact quite a number of trips have dogs along...if they ask first that is but not many do actually, infact Tusker has brought his dogs on my trips as has many others, we even sneaked a couple through NP's.
On the October long weekend trip a bloke brought his dogs to the farm, let them off, and had one of the "old" goats bailed up on its back & another drove a ram head long into a wire fence, it's head imprint is still in the rabbit wire :mad::mad:. I'll still lets dogs along but only when I'm here, on that occassion I wasn't, as we did a run to Hill End & he did the wrong thing after he was told to have them on a lead...and you wonder why people get backed up a little...keeps you on your toes though :D:D:D
Hi All,
Perhaps somewhat "off-topic", but seeing as the committee has still to accept Incisor's offer:
Can anyone tell me who is organising the Dingo Dell working bees, what's involved & who the bees are?
Many Thanks,
I know I said that was it from me...but!
Very, very few members that go on "my" trips are retired...one out of 50 I would say, thats why mine are for three to four weeks, to cover the normal scope of holiday periods.
I thought taking and going with family would have been a key issue of who you take with you on holidays...unless the "wife/family" hate off roading, dust & no toilets for a little part of their life.
I was lucky we've been doing it since the oldest now 35 was 6 months old & the other two that came along both girls, right up until it wasn't cool to go away with mum & dad & had their own lives.
Even in their twenty's we all piled in for a big trip to WA back in the nineties. One year a daughter flew to Darwin to continue from there to Sydney as she could only get two week lengths off from work.
I've got 12 cars going to Cape York in June for 28 days 2008 (started out 14 & still hoping for some to drop out[I can't say no]), some with kids, I'm the only one retired :D:D:D:D:D
