Does LROC (Sydney Branch) still exist?

    Hi All,
On either 1st or 2nd Dec, I applied via the web to rejoin this club. Paypal processed the payment & receipt acknowledged.

I received no further contact from the club and so, on 12th Dec, I sent an email to the new membership sec ( CC: to the club sec) asking when I would receive my "new membership package" and asking for access to the "members only" section of their website.

I have still received NO response.

Today, I have emailed the President of the club (there are no phone contact details on their website). We'll see how long - if ever, before I receive a response to this email.

I'm seriously considering withdrawing my application and requesting a refund.

    Hang in there..

These things have to go through a monthly cycle, plus there's the break now..

Slow or non-existent response to emails is never satisfactory, but its a fact of life with volunteer organisations. There is a committee position dedicated to new members, so it will happen.

    And welcome aboard!

    Regards
    Max P

    Hi Rover-N-it,
IIRC, there was a $50 joining fee, plus a sliding scale on the annual fee ($40 for Dec).

What did I expect in return? Access to the "members only" part of the website, which contains, I imagine, their calendar of events, including training, trip reports etc.

I particularly wanted to find out when they are visiting the Snowy Mtns huts for repairs (similar to LROCV in VIC).

At the moment, I'm snookered (sp?)

    Hi Max,
From your response, you are still a member, congratulations on "hanging in" there. Are you now a "life" member?

Re: volunteer organisations: When I was a committee member of a search & rescue organisation, we had a policy of replying to non-urgent emails (or other comms) within 24h. I think that policy should also apply to LROC.

So, am I to understand, from your comment about "monthly cycles" & "break" that I should expect to wait for more than a month to get any sort of response? Funny that the LROC website doesn't even hint at this.

Thanks for the "welcome aboard" but I don't even know that I am "aboard" yet.

    Yours, in Frustration,

No prob, you'll probably find that your membership has been renewed, just that they haven't forwarded the paperwork/kit to you.

I must be lucky mine was back within 2 weeks, i have heard of the email delays, i tend to phone people if things begin to drag on.

Still not good when it happens and we all can't go to the meetings to pick stuff up.

When I was a member I sent emails to the club seeking access to the members' area and emails about other stuff. No answers were ever received, and no access was ever provided. I'm no longer a member.

Note that when I was Editor of the mag some years back, the emails were read and acted upon.
