Whilst looking around I found that VDO Dayton make some good headunits with USB connectors for MP3s. Repco stock them.

I got home yesterday and there was the disc. I slipped it into the car stereo and had a quick flick through the tracks.

I think you have done very well, there are only a few tracks on there that I will skip on a road trip. I think our taste in music must be pretty similar!

Be warry of the VDO Dayton units, great for 12 months then seem to fall apart. I have 2 friends that have just thrown theirs up the tip an dgone for pioneer or alpine units. They are not that much dearer. I always use pioneer in my cars and have never had a drama with them. A good pioneer unit can be bought for $250-$450 if you look aroud and depends on what you want.
I have just put a Kenwood mp3/cd unit into my Mums Commodore and it is a great unit for $249 another $100 gets you the unit with ipod conectivity. These Kenwoods are really easy to use as well. Also Kenwood make 4" 3 way speakers that fit nicely in the Defender, only 4" 3 ways I have found, the rest are mostly 2 way.

So that's $349 for a basic Kenwood iPod connected unit - or for $499 there is this from Pioneer which has a full speed iPod connection with menus on the screen AND Bluetooth for your phone.

Well you are probably 15-20 years younger than me so won't be offended if you think some of it is crap!

Use an Ipod instead of CD's

Got myself a 40 gig Apple ipod for my Christmas present and a FM transmitter which plugs into lighter socket holds Ipod and you play through the car steroe much better than CD and easier to use
