    Range Rover Info - Please

    Hi,
Anyone have or had a 1993 Range Rover vogue SE 3.9 litre 4 speed auto, if so are they ok with about 260,000 klms on the clock?

    Any info appreciated

    Brad,

This is about my favourite model RR. 260k would be time for heads and cam/ followers etc. The EAS would've wanted to have had all new airbags, and possibly a compressor by now. The ABS system in these is excellent, but will need an accumulator at 15years old. The ABS pump is usually OK, but if the brake fluid hasn't had regular changes it could be problematic, as with the modulator.
CV's etc are also robust, but previous maintenance must be kept up to them. The viscous coupling can be a problem with siezing at rthis age too.

Not a pretty picture eh? But I'D still have one in a flash.

Just make sure that A) you get it checked by someone who knows these vehicles before you buy, buy it cheap, C) be prepared for SOME minor probs like the above.D) buy it cheap.

Shortly I'll have another Vogue, this time an LSE and I can hardly wait.

    Enjoy.

Thanks Justin for the words of wizdom, I have my eye on one in Perth. It has just had springs fitted to replace the air suspension.

Any chance you could define "Cheap" for me.

Hope you have a great Christmas and a quite couple of days off.

I pais $6300 for a 93 with coil conversion. It had a non functioning cruise control and aircon. Both where repaired with minimal expense. I repaired them myself but the only parts required to repair the a/c was seals. and gas ($100).

I love my 93. Unfortunatly(?) my finace cooked it a week after we got it going up greenmount and the "forced" me to fot a new 4.6 short motor and wolf injection "worst" thing i ever did.....

Where is the car located in perth? Are you up to speed on all the usual rrc foibles? If your not mechanically savvy i would recommend somebody like Kevin from rovertech to check it over. This could save you buying a dud.

    cheers

I had a 93 Vogue plus, minus the air suspension and a few items. I owned it for 4 years and rolled it about 3 or so years ago off-road. It had just over 300K on it and it was the most reliable Rangie I've owned. Treated it like complete crap too but it just keep soldering on to be quite honest.

The most expensive repair I had was the rebuilt auto and the heads, cam, etc.. done. I would have been able to save some big $$$ now that I can do most of the engine work myself to be quite honest. The auto rebuilds have also come down in price and a good low km unit isn't that expensive and will get you a few giood years of service anyway

My current 87 Rangie is okay and has all the toys, but nowhere near as reliable IMO. The 3.9 is a great engine and it's not that much bigger but you can tell the difference (well I did) coming up from a 3.5 to a 3.9 plus the EFI system is so much better than the older 'flapper crapper' system (like my 87 has).

Good luck in getting one, they're a great unit and you won't be dissapointed.

Thanks guys - Sounds like they are a good unit. I know of one for sale privately but have been unable to contact the owner as yet. Must be on holidays like everyone else.

    Howdy Brad,

Well, Lucas has got himself a bargain as this is what a cheap one will go for. A lot of car for the money. As he said, make sure it gets well looked at before you buy. A cheap rangie can end up an expensive one and unreliable too if you are not careful. As Trav (Aquarangie) added, it is a far better model in lots of ways, especially with the 3.9 and the hotwire fuel injection.

And yes, I am having a few quiet moments ....eventually!
