Ditto. My kids are 20 and 17 and have never seen me without a beard. I have had at least a nose broom since I was 18. Turn 49 next March.

I have a set of clippers and once a month do a tidy up. Beats the hell out of scrapping the dial with a razor every morning. Stops sunburn in the summer and keeps the chops warm in the winter.

I am however thinking of shaving it all off - just to see what the hell I look like without it and to scare the missus and work mates.

I thought so too. However, I found I can't stand being unshaven, I feel dirty. I was also looking forward to almost never wearing shoes but found this is not possible. Hot lathe chips, welding splatter, sharp bits on the ground wherever you go, hot roads, and the looks from people in shopping centres etc.

I have had a beard for a while, and it's a rainbow effect (mainly black and red, with grey highlights!:D). I used to have jetblack hair and red/black beard.

Shave with beard clippers, usually about once a month, used to keep a goatee, but now just a straight number 1 or 2
