Thumbs down Dirty water Lake Buff / Ovens river

What a mess, all the pines up stream from the lake were harvested just prior to the last 50 mil of rain. Lake Buffalo is now ice coffee, with the spill way flat out the Buffalo blends with the upper ovens, turning the home patch in to a muddy trench. If there were some figs, pandanis and the odd croc it would be just like the Kimberly (early wet).
I spose the Xmass lures will hafto stay in their boxes a little longer, not to mention a hot new years day with no clear pool to cool of in.

It will clear in a few days, the Delatite used to do the same when I was a kid where they had been logging near the river it used to turn it to mud after rain but normally cleared in a day or 2.

Haven't been out there to have a look. We got 81 mm of rain in the last downpour. Went and checked the spring where we get out water from and the $%#@ DSE have run their Dozers up behnd the spring where it crosses an old snig trail. It was like a big bog hole. Fan bloddy tastic! Good on ya... Gooses!

Got back from a few days base camped up at Abbeyards on the Buffalo. The lake and the river downstream is still soup-where we were camped is upstream of the cleared pines-water is fantastic, quite clear and a good level for trout fishing. Left my tent there so will have to go back and get it...damn!!...spent a day driving through the hummfray and wonnangatta valleys...no where near the traffic in there that there use to be..which makes me glad!! The wonnangatta is flowing well and crystal clear..magic!...so many empty campsites! Had a spin at a river crossing on the Hummfray and caught a little trout...for those into lures...that may be the place to go..the flats are very overgrown with thistle these days...2 hot fires in 5 years and the landscape is a bit different these days..schmezz when are you up at mitta?
