    Hi Lou.
I have been using Auto glym for years on different cars, the super resin polish (red label) for paintwork. Have heard that meguiars is good too.
The metallic paint is laquered so no worries there. The bonnet will probably be harder work if it has been in the sun and not polished over a period of time.
Give it a good wash/rinse and chamois first so you dont leave dust or grit to rub in with the polish. Use a soft cloth, old tshirts are good. I usually do a panel at a time so it doesnt dry too quickly. Doing mine next week after giving it a good service hopefully
    Have fun

    X2

My Disco gets a Bday once a year and comes up looking great.

Last time it took me about 4 hrs and I normally do it inside on a cool day to slow the drying time down a bit.

any decent cutting compound will work fine but for best results use a variable speed buffer (about $150 in supercrap), set on it's slowest setting with plenty of water. i usually work with a window cleaner type spray gun to ensure the area being buffed is still wet and doesn't burn.
then once complete use a decent quality wax (applied by hand will be fine)and it'll look like new.

I like the old Turtle wax, providing the finish to the duco is not oxidised, those buffers are on sale at the moment at Super Cheap for 19.99, bloody cheap grab two case one packs it in.

I've used Meguires for years and been happy with it. Was recently given some Auto Glym and tried out - was very impressed.

Have also tried the new Turtle Wax Ice (West Coast Eagles favourite) recently. Found it very good on the black plastic / rubber trim, including snorkel, wheel arches, window rubbers etc. It does not leave any white residue on black like many other products do, and in fact removes most of the white residue from past polishing. Brings up the black surfaces really well. BUT - it is crap on the painted surfaces. Goes on easily, but bloody hard to buff off, and no matter how hard you buff it, it leaves streaks / swirls and other markings on painted surfaces. So I just use it for the black trim areas now, and leave the painted surfaces to either Meguires or Auto Glym.
    Cheers .........
