    Surf Conditions New Year

Reminds me - tomorrow (New Years Day) we're going down the coast for a surf - Wollongong to Kiama way.... anyone down that way can tell us what conditions are like at moment? Sea T, waves etc. We usually head off to Shellharbour or N Wollongong ... any other suggestions? (Body boarding).

Out at Cronulla today...the swell was starting to come up, obviously thanks to what is happening up north. Areas exposed to north swells will benefit..could reach down towards the Gong and beyond....

    Waves

    G'day,

    For NSW waves see -

    Manly Hydraulics Laboratory

    For Queensland waves see -

    Wave Monitoring - EPA/QPWS

Both sites give the significant wave height (Hs) which is the average height of the highest one third of the waves. A single maximum height wave can be twice as high as Hs .... and will get bigger as they come to shore

    Cheers,

    Grant

I'd be going to the pub instead. A mate from up Forster way called and said the surf today was huge and it is heading down that way. By tomorrow it would be a brave man that would go body-bogging in that.

Then again you may be a thrill seeker and like having your head rammed into a sandy bottom

    Looks ok .. " Tuesday; E swell 4 – 6ft+ open beaches, easing to 4 – 5ft during the day. N winds early tending NE 10 - 20 knots."

My son surfs at Cronulla/Wanda regularly and checks the surf every morning onlin at www.coastalwatch.com

The site has cameras at many beaches around Australia and you can check out the surf before setting off.

    Cheers,

    Gordon
