One in the eye for Discovery owners

From "Carsguide" 29-30/12/07. "Hema out on Patrols"

"Hema Maps covers thousands of kilometres every year, so the gear they use has to be reliable.

They drive ARB-kitted Nissan Patrols on Cooper tyres and use a range of GPS units including the Magellan eXplorist XL, an Asus and a Differential GPS.

Hema marketing manager Peter Davis said when they started field checking they used Land Rover Discovery vehicles.

"We drive a lot of rough roads with a lot of gear and it (Discovery) just didn't do it," he said.

"We then did a test with Patrols and LandCruisers and our field checkers agreed that the Patrol was best."

"Our field checkers were complaining about getting bad backs from the LandCruiser."

I remember seeing the Hema Disco's on my travels and then the Patrols, I wonder how much sponsorship is also involved in selection of the vehicles as well as the kit on and in it. There's a fairly big chunk of brand name identification in that statement.
