Series steer wheel dilema
Has anyone ever toyed with the idea of fitting a smaller steering wheel into a 2,2A which has the through bolt to secure rather then the big nut on top of the steer column shaft, the steerwheel in my S1 is shot, am not retaining the original horn/Hi beam button centre piece, either I go for a S2 steerwheel or something else, anything else fit them?

Discussions I have seen advise not to fit a smaller wheel due to the extra effort involved in turning, especially low speed turns, ie parking.
Big tyres would exacerbate the problem.

many people have fitted smaller steering wheels to find that the armstrong power steering did not have the required strength to turn the steering wheel over a trip to the shops, the original steering wheels were quickly replaced

G'day Graceysdad
There is a company that repairs original steering wheels for the Vintage Veteran and Historic vehicle owners, they are in Melbourne, they trade as "PearlCraft" have been around for 15 or so years, do good quality work, website is PEARLCRAFT. The most beautiful steering wheels: Home I know that they will do truck steering wheels as several members of the Historic Commercial vehicle club of Qld have had theirs done
I would advise to keep your original wheel as the large size aids steering ease.
cheers

I put a slightly smaller wheel from an early County on my SIII. Steering required more effort, but I also had more elbow room to steer with. I drove across the Simpson Desert with this wheel on and it wasn't really that bad. I wouldn't go smaller than that though.
