RIP Diesel, Mar 07-Dec 07, my 4 legged mate.

    G'day All,

Its taken me a few days to write this as it has been very saddening. As many of you know I lost Benz, our 8 yr old shepherd to a car accident at Easter. Months later, along came Diesel, who was from Benz's half sister, so the same bloodline, which was important. I have posted a few times on Diesel's trials and tribulations over his short life. First was suspected hip dysplasia and still unconfirmed wobblers syndrome, which essentially meant he had a bit of a wobble at times, but didnt stop him belting around the yard and playing with the kids. When going for an xray for wobblers, they found a 4 cm bolt in his guts..........ahhh puppies, which was thought may have been the problem.

We also had to take him to the vet for a paralysis tick where they had to shave him from head to toe...even made the local paper , and he made it through that. All in all a beautiful dog, plus our first proper family dog for all our combined children as we came into the relationship with our own pets, so even more special because of that.

Anyway on Boxing day I noticed his eyes were droopy and blood shot, mistakenly I thought from being in the pool area and may have got some chlorine/salt water in his eyes, plus slighlty wobbly but again due to his existing condition, just having an off day. Otherwise fine, playing with our other dog etc. On Thursday went out for a play, eyes still the same and weak on his legs, checked him over, breathing normal, eyes normal and had to drop off kids to their mums, so would check again when I got home. On way back, my 6mth preggers missus rang to say she was taking him straight to the vets as he could now hardly move. I met them there at the vets and we trollied him in. Seems like he had been bitten by a snake and tests later seemed to confirm the diagnosis as there was blood in the urine. Was told 70% chance. Next day, conditioned worsened, on another check they found a tick......so now been treated for both and told 75% chance. Received a phone call at 8am on Saturday............Diesel had passed from respitory failure, seemed the combination was too much for the poor bugger.

I was expecting him home on Sunday and sadly he will never come home. I had to ring my two older children (10&9) and break the news, the sound of my son crying along with my own tears and that I had to make my daughter come to the phone as she couldnt speak only made it all the worse. My 4 yr old is still asking when Diesy is coming home. Still today I am gutted and for no doubt sometime to come. Diesel, like many of our pets are family, not everyone can understand that, I only wish he had got to do some of the things we were going to do, not pass at 9mths old. Diesel,a big bastard, beautiful nature and a great mate, we all miss ya,

    Regards

    Stevo

that'd be right, make me start balling again

Masayo and i were gutted also when you told us, as you've said Diesel was a beautiful pup and we are terribly sorry for your loss especially considering all he's been through.

    Tried calling a couple times.

Take care of yourselves... i assume you've buried him at your new property so will have a beer with him when over next.

Sorry to hear Stevo, as I said in the other thread it's hard to lose a friend - it's even harder when you know they had so much more life in them

    It sure sucks

    Stevo

What can I say mate I,m not sure. I had to put down my horse a while ago due to a twisted bowell and I know exactly how you feel. It just sucks when the kids take it hard.

    All the best from us.

I'm real sorry to hear that mate. Real sorry.
Not much I can say, but at least you and the kids shared some quality time with the little fella.

    RIP Diesel.
