if I am driving long distance I will kick off the shoes,my feet are usaully trapped in gumboots for 13 hours at a time when I am at work so anychance to free them from confinement is a good thing

Yes no issue there, I think that too, but Im thinking more about crush injuries in a mva, or if need to get out of the car quickly, that kind of thing......

I've had many err conversations with SWMBO for driving in thongs or women's equivalent and she would say she was told by her driving instructor, way back when, to wear shoes - she thought he meant footwear (any footwear) as opposed to bare foot.
I finally explained that it was meant to be shoes, secured to your feet as opposed to thongs which can slip off.
Barefeet is safer, if you have thongs kick them off.
In some cars my RM Williams foul the underside of the dash so I have to take them off too.

I cannot even walk around bare foot

We do have a member of this forum who does walk and drive bare foot, but he does wear long trousers and long sleeved shirts

I have a photo of him in my gallery

I agree bare feet is better than thongs, but still not good (except moving the car around the driveway etc as mentioned above).

I also agree that big boots can be bad news, but worse than that is long loops in shoe laces - get them caught under the brake and you're only option is to go for the key . Been there, done that, learnt from it, never do it again
